NSL Insider - Team by Team: Philadelphia 76ers

by Shams, updated on Monday, November 13 2023, 05:20 am EST

Highlight:

Even after what felt like a down year, the team made the playoffs as the 7 seed, with all of the things that went wrong for the team, making the playoffs in a deep Eastern conference is an accomplishment. You look at what they accomplished with all the barriers they had, you think of how good they can be.

Lowlight:

Injuries, we saw players miss extensive time with them and impact the season heavily, Adams happened later in the year, Wiggins was out for personal reasons, and Yurtseven was out for a lot of the season. You see it happen with teams a lot, but it is still devastating to see a team drop in the standings and not have as much success cause of it.

Best Trade

The Minnesota Timberwolves send Rudy Gobert and Haywood Highsmith to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Philadelphia 76ers send Al Horford and Alex Caruso to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Philadelphia 76ers send a
1st-Rounder (OKC) and 1st-Rounder (Phi) to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Sixers got the best player and he helped a ton with Adams going down with injury. If this deal hadn’t happened they likely wouldn’t have made the playoffs.

Worst Trade

The Philadelphia 76ers send Caleb Martin and Max Strus out in return for Chuma Okeke, Garrett Temple, and a 2nd round pick.

This turned out to be bad based on how the others played for the rest of season and how it was some lost value. Ben would not have known this was the value they’d end up with.

Other Notable Trades:

Every trade where the 76ers trade GMs for 2nds will not be mentioned one by one and I would say he won them all. We discuss the 2nds he has a lot so no more needs to be said.

The Toronto Raptors send Bismack Biyombo to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers send a 2nd-Rounder (Por) to the Toronto Raptors.

The Philadelphia 76ers use their trade exception over $ 1,836,090.

Not that bad of a trade lost a 2nd and he was waived later on, not much of a loss even though it is somewhat of one.

Star:

De’aaron Fox

Fox did not have the greatest year for the 76ers, but he was the consistent star that led the team throughout and a large part in making the playoffs. He will be a much better player in this years engine and also probably getting more 2k respect. He was pretty available the whole season only missing two weeks of the year.

Flop:

Andrew Wiggins and Steven Adams

This two down the stretch really hurt the team with injuries and left Fox to man the team by himself. Wiggins was away for personal reasons for a while, but Adams has had injury after injury, being out for the season already this year. As it seemed like he was going to come back he was out again then. It’s hard to prepare for that. Even when Wiggins was playing he wasn’t super efficient and he even had a decrease in his stats from the year prior.

Draft:

With Marcus Sasser being one of better rookies and also being the guy Ben decided to trade it makes it hard to give a good grade. Jaylen Clark was a good pick considering he can be stashed as a two way, he is very talented especially on defense. The only thing I know about Sidy Cissoko is he’s a raw prospect, the other prospects I don’t even think were drafted in the NBA. The players could be stash guys, I know Audige played pretty well in the Summer League.

Grade C

Free Agency:

The 76ers are currently looking full, but things could change depending on who goes where in FA, Brogdon is expecting to stay, but Donte is a toss in the air with no resigning bonus. The team is almost never active in FA due to the amount of picks they have each year, but this year there’s some activity to do. The team doesn’t have a full MLE, so they are hampered on what they are able to do.

Future:

The team has a lot of talent, Steven Adams is unfortunately out for the season already, they have some depth at the big spot. The guard spot is hard to figure out though. Fox is set as the star, but there are some question marks outside of him. Ben knows what he’s doing, not making any irrational trades and waiting for the right guy. The team has some good depth, and injuries very much have a say in how far this team can go.

C: Omer Yurtseven / Dayron Sharpe / Steven Adams

PF: Precious Achiuwa / Jericho Sims / Jabari Walker

SF: Andrew Wiggins / Chuma Okeke / Peyton Watson

SG: Malcolm Brogdon / Norman Powell / Talen Horton-Tucker
