NSL Insider - Lets get Wemby to rumble part 2!

by TheYeetMaster, updated on Wednesday, June 14 2023, 09:37 pm EST

Time for Part 2 of our 3 Part mock draft. In this article, we will be going over picks 15-30, finishing off the first round. Lets Get Started!

15th pick, Detroit Selects: Jalen Hood-Schifino, Point Guard, Indiana.

Finally out of the lottery, now it just gets more confusing. Detroit took Cam Whitmore with the 4th overall pick to address the need for a starting caliber wing to pair with Spida and Simons. Now this pick is an easier one for detroit. With a lack of a backup PG, Jalen can fit right in right away to fill that position. His 13.5ppg, 4.1rpg and 3.7apg would slot him well as a productive bench player for Detroit, potentially being their 6th man.

16th pick, Lakers Select: Kobe Bufkin, Shooting Guard, Michigan.

Rumor has it that LA has a couple of big trades lined up to improve the roster and compete for next season. Because they have no real major contracts besides Bertans, its safe to assume they are depleting their depth to make these moves. Kobe is a good replacement for the potential players being sent out. With a solid all around game and a great scoring touch, Kobe would pair well with Quickly off the bench, forming a formidable 1-2 scoring punch off the Lakers bench.

17th pick, Rockets Select: Dereck Lively II, Center, Duke.

This may seem a bit high for Lively, as most mocks have him a few spots lower in the early 20s, but with Houston's lack of depth and talent of bigs (Besides Joker), Lively can slot right in behind the Joker right away as the teams backup Center. Despite his low scoring and rebounding for a center, his 2.4bpg would provide great rim pressure for players attempting to get inside for an easy layup. Theres also his near 66% FG percentage that makes him a reliable scoring and lob threat near the hoop.

18th pick, Clippers Select: Brice Sensabaugh, Small Forward, Ohio State.

The clippers have the next three picks, so we are gonna keep up this game of imagining each pick they make is their only one they have in the first. With Grant and Oubre both UFA, Brice can slot in right away as a backup wing off the bench. An efficient scorer at 16.3ppg on 48%/40.5%/83% splits, Brice can come in and provide a good shooting threat for this Clippers Bench unit.

19th pick: Clippers Select: Kris Murray, Power Forward, Iowa.

Kris Murray, the twin brother to Keegan Murray, is very similar to his brother. At near 69 with a near 7ft wingspan, Murray is a good score and defensive player. His all around skill set and big body would allow for more versatility for the clippers potential lineups. And if his statistics provide anything, theres a good chance hes able to be as good, or better, than his brother.

20th pick, Clippers Select: GG Jackson, Power Forward, South Carolina.

Jackson started out as a potential top 10 pick at the start of the season, but after a rough second half, hes tumbled a bit down the board. With a lack of big man depth, jackson would be able to provide good scoring and defense off the bench for LA. His ability to space the floor with his shooting allows him to be a positive from day one.

21st pick, Cleveland Selects: Leonard Miller, Small Forward, G League Ignite.

Miller is the easy pick. He has arguably one of the highest ceilings in the whole draft, and along with his 610 frame, his size and scoring ability would be a massive threat off the bench, along with his rebounding. If miller can just improve his 3PT percentage, he has real All Star potential.

22nd pick, Boston Selects: Jett Howard, Shooting Guard, Michigan.

Howard has also fallen a bit on the boards, but his size and shooting ability has kept him in the first round. His near 37% 3PT shooting and 14.2ppg would provide boston with a good scoring and shooting threat off their bench. However, theres a good chance boston could move this pick with the amount of young talent and multiyear contracts already on the roster. I wouldnt be surprised if they have already received some calls for the pick.

23rd pick, Lakers Select: Bilal Coulibaly, Small Forward, Metropolitans 92.

Bilal has been a steady climber in recent mock drafts. Providing strong performances during the 92s playoff run in the french league has allowed him to slide out of the large, looming shadow of superstar teammate Victor Wembenyana. One of the youngest players in the draft, along with his solid shooting splits and great defense has thrust him into the mid first round. A good workout or two, or a couple of good interviews could move him into the late to early teens. Don't be surprised if he becomes a late lotto pick come draft day.

24th pick, Bucks Select: Rayan Rupert, Shooting Guard, NZ Breakers.

Milwaukee is standing pretty rn with a deep playoff run and a roster for the future with SGA, Mobley and OG. However with nearly the rest of the roster on the back half of 30, taking an upside talent swing isn't a bad idea. Rayan has the size and mechanics to make it in the NBA and become a potential deadly BC duo with SGA. however his poor numbers and raw potential, it may take a year or two before hes really ready for the big lights, but could be worth the risk.

25th pick, Lakers Select: Dariq Whitehead, Shooting Guard, Duke.

Dereck Livelys teammate was initially mocked ahead of him in most mocks for his potential ceiling before lively outshined him in the second half of the season. Whitehead makes sense for LA as team filled with young talent, Dariq is easily a high risk, high reward player. With a whooping 42.9% 3PT percentage, Dariq can come off the bench as a two or three with his 67 frame and keep defenses honest on the perimeter.

26th pick, Minny Selects: James Nnaji, Center, Barcelona.

Despite little playing time this past season for Barcelona, James is considered by many the most physically gifted player in the draft, with athleticism out the Whazoo. That alone, along with his young age, puts him in the back of the first rd. He makes sense for Minny as a team rumored to have a deal in place for a massive superstar, and at the same time looking to move on from Jonas and AL.

27th pick. Memphis Select: Maxwell Lewis, Small Forward, Pepperdine.

Coming off an arguably disappointing second rd exit, Mem has a lack in the wing department rn. Lewis fits that bill. Breaking out mid season, having 7 games of 20+ points in a row, the 67 sophomore can come off the bench behind Brown and provide scoring and defense for this Grizz team next season. He got the tangables to be a potential AS in the league as well one day.

28th pick, NY Selects: Colby Jones, Shooting Guard, Xavier.

Looking to run it back next year, the Knickerbockers have a real lack of guard depth on the team. Jones can help fix that. With a solid all around game of scoring, defense and playmaking, you could make the argument of Jones being the go to 6th man or even being the starting 2 for them next year, forming a formidable guard rotation of Jones, Athoney, Smart and Hart.

29th pick, Clippers select. Noah Clowney, Power Forward, Alabama.

The Clips biggest weakness is size in the center position, with Paolo Playing it his rookie year. While Clowney isnt a center himself, He would provide size and spacing for the clips to potentially play a 5 out next year with him on the floor. His ability to shoot the 3, despite the poor numbers, will keep defenses on the perimeter, freeing up the lane for drivers.

30th pick, GS Selects: Brandin Podzimski, Shooting Guard, Santa Clara.

A SG from Santa Clara went in the lotto last year after a strong Combine performance. Could it happen again? Probably not, however, after a strong second half to the collegiate season and impressive combine outing, the SC prospect has quickly risen up the boards into the first rd. Having no one true flaw in his game, Brandin will provide scoring, shooting, playmaking, rebounding and defense for the Warriors off the bench.
