Everyone give a warm Washington welcome to the 19th pick in the 2014 NBA draft, Garry Harris! Harris comes across to us from the Phoenix Suns in a 6 player trade that also bought Monte Morris and Justin Patton for Terry Rozier, Patrick McCaw and Juwan morgan.
We would first off like to thank those outgoing players for their services to the team and wish them all the best in their future endeavours but onto the more exciting news. The headliner in this trade for GM Joshua was Harris who has been underperforming in the NSL and NBA alike compared to past performances but the Wizards are confident that at 25 years old, his best days are very much ahead of him. Harris is an above average shooter from all over the floor and an above average defender we feel he can continue to grow and develop with our young core and has all the attributes and the right mental make up to lead us in the chase for championships.
The other big draw in this trade for us was the acquisition of Monte Morris, a young point guar that is an elite shooter and is continuing to develop his game and will the perfect back up behind starter Lonzo Ball and also has the ability to move off ball and play alongside Ball. Morris ranks 22nd in the NSL in 29 minutes per game in his two stops (Phoenix and New York) which is something that interested the Wizards brass after their recent back up point guard was more of a shoot first, second and third with passing being a distance 4th option in his arsenal. Morris’s fantastic contract allows the Wizards to use the spare cap space to sign more players in the off season and aid in filling out the roster.
The last player acquired in the deal was big man Justin Patton (nicknamed Big Muddy), the 16th overall pick in the NBA draft. Yet to really live up to the picks billing, the Wizards still see some potential in the big man and hope he can start to put it all together and become a future rotational player in the Capitol.
