Welcome Back

Philly Frills: 22/07/2024

Only 16 short months ago, the Philadelphia 76ers made the call to send away, via trade, one of their favourites in a bid to join the revolution at the time which was the double big line up. Draymond Green departed to bring in Malcolm Brogdon. Fast forward to now, and we are welcoming back the much maligned big man in a bid to once again bolster the teams defence.

The 76ers orchestrated a three team deal which basically saw them send out the following package, for Draymond Green.

Norman Powell
Sidy Cissoko
Rayan Rupert
Rights to Bobi Klintman
Rights to Pelle Larsson
Milwaukee 2026 2nd round pick

Norman Powell was a key member of the 76er bench last year as a spark plug scorer, but the team found themselves carrying one too many bench capable scorers last year, and only added to that bench quagmire with the addition of Kevin Huerter and Gary Payton II coming in. Draymond can play a key role as a stopper in the starting unit, allowing Peyton Watson to grow in a reserve role next year. The rest, are all depth upside pieces of which the 76ers have a plethora of after having drafted 11 players in the most recent draft. They may all yet go on to be something in this league, but the depth of the 76ers means they could warrant shifting for the upgrade in the one-of-a-kind Draymond Green.

Draymond has been a 76er favourite for a number of years now, and returns to the team still written into their history books as their #2 scorer of all time, #2 assist man, #1 in steals, #4 in rebounds and #6 in blocks. He’ll get the chance to add to these numbers for the foreseeable future. He’s expected to line up at SF for now, but maybe cover some power forward while Kristaps Porzingis is out, depending on line ups.

Welcome back Draymond!
