Get Positive
Well after a pretty crappy season from the Grizzlies who just couldn't find their groove due to a variety of injuries and a large lack of regular rebounding due to a variety of "outs" with injuries all through the year the team still found itself in a massive debt of GMs. On the plus side, knowing that they are propping up half the leagues 99 point bids on whatever cheesing big we can find in the preseason gives the team a good feeling.
While the debt was manageable and had the team actually made the play offs they would have been able to come out of the end of the season with a shortfall. But we sucked and we've paid for it. Now we are restricted on making any deals until the debt is paid. So with our journey into the positive ahead of us lets celebrate the good things to come out of the season.
1) Jaren Jackson Jnr got some solid exposure as a number 1 option in the NBA, while we don't expect it to make a difference this year, or next, having those reps under his belt will help him take strides in his development as his career with the Grizzlies progress.
2) Some of our Heat players got some serious playoff burn again, handing the eventual champions as many losses as the Western Conference Champions. Tyler Herro had good games and he had some that were less good. Again another learning and development chance for the 24 year old. Bam Adebayo played himself into a solid extension, which is not only much less than the max, but actually a really good value deal when you see what people who "test" the open market are getting.
3) We have two NBA champions on the squad, one guy Jaden Springer didn't see the court, but he still gets that ring. And the other guys won Finals MVP. Dante Exum gave us hope in the Finals that at least one player from the Grizz would leave with a ring after that series.
4) Ben Sheppard showed himself as a quality rotation piece in the Indiana Boston series, with hopes amongst the NSL Memphis community that we can watch him develop with more opportunity in the new season.
Those were probably the playoff/season highlights at a glance.
But who cares about the NBA right? Its NSL or bust here.
The positive thing that you may have heard about the Grizzlies is that they won some kind of lottery and have the #1 pick in the draft. That's something to be positive about. They have though used this opportunity to build out their depth with the expected departure of Lonnie Walker and Mason Plumlee in the offseason, so we will hopefully see the completion of a deal that will see the pick be shifted for the #3 and #6 picks.
Its a time to get positive in Memphis, but the first and most important positive is our GM points balance.
