NSL Insider - (1) Blazers Vs (8) Mavericks

by merencio, updated on Thursday, April 16 2020, 04:32 am EST

OUTLOOK:

Portland comes to this series as the top NSL team. The 1st spot in the West with a sparkling league-best 66-16 record.

The Blazers have literally blazed through the season and there’s no question about it. It seems like they’ve led from start to finish, including a record 30 win streak! Impressive!
Do you how good a team has to be to lose only 16 times? That’s really impressive!
They have arguably 2 top-5 players on their squad in Kawhi and Harden, and this makes a lot of things easier. Jmac is a trade guru and has put together the NSL equivalent of a high-end sports car (those are great).
The one constant throughout the season is the current MVP candidate James Harden, which is shooting a million three balls a game, and making them!
The engine agrees with them and they are so talented for a team that was already expected to being in the running for the ring in the pre-season, they’ve come really far, sooo many trades but with a sparkling record and two of the league biggest stars at the moment on the team GM Jmac has a lot of reasons to smile.
So we’ll see a bunch of 2k studs together in this one, which makes for an entirely different series experience. This is the first NSL playoff series EVER, so they will have to be on their toes to make it count!

Of course, the Blazers’s biggest star is Harden, and is on a tour mission about making people regret not picking him up earlier in the NSL draft and will play a big part on motivating his guys, making sure they make that extra push to take this one. Harden’s leadership, alongside Kawhi will be very important for what they do up there.

The player to watch will be the bench god, Rudy Gay, who can do a little bit of everything an even play from the 2 to the 4 (maybe 1?) with ease and has quickly become one of the steals of the season for GM Jmac and the Blazers, however he’ll be asked to do and perform up to par and balance that starting lineup. While we still don’t know where Rudy will line up, I will bet it is back to the old days and head to the bench.

They will face a good test in a Mavs team which has had an up and down season but with the help of a glitch, can heat up in a hurry! good season.

Dallas
has the 8th spot to show for their season, which means you’ve made it! Kudos! Now it’s time to face the juggernaut as a reward! The air tight West was tough and they finished with a 43-39 record above Memphis for the last spot in the big dance.

After a great start to the season, there was already some talk that the Mavs could be title contenders in the hard and competitive Western Conference. Then, after a couple of up-and-down weeks, and a season of seemingly underachieving, came the big trade, and the only one that matters, for a guy that is INJURED!!!!
Well, as history will show and probably soon forget, that trade for the one and only KD. I imagine GM Javi was in the clouds, and to the surprise of everyone, the team started playing better, or good enough to make a run. And Glitchzingis was unleashed upon the world!
They have proven themselves to be a competitive team so far and are solid everywhere. With Porzingis playing the way he’s playing, they get just dangerous enough so that Jmac has bit of a chill in his spine every once in a while, that’s probably how I would react anyway haha.

When you take a look at their roster, they have veteran players that can contribute immediately, and this is a team built with the baller mindset and therefore, they should not be underestimated! They aren’t afraid and will try to win now while still keeping it flexible with potential for the future as well. With the Zinger on board, can they do it?

What's interesting is that they also went on a roster shake-up and got better after the whole process after losing Trey Young and Andrew Wiggins, their top scorers!  Some people wonder if they are tanking still but the other side of the coin can be flipped as savvy moves made by Javi or even just an engine that is favorable to his team’s playstyle. Regardles, GM Javi got what he was after and this is his team now, made in his image, and the results are great! Sources say that Javi has been overheard saying that he has no idea how he’s winning or how he’ll win this one, but he’s confident about it!

I bet Jmac and the Blazers team will take notice of that rumor and perhaps use it as motivation.

X-FACTOR MATCH-UP:

Dwight Howard X Kristaps Porzingis

It is important to note that the enforcer in the paint and defensive standout here is Dwight, well it was, but 2k doesn’t know that yet haha, but the Zinger has also played good defense and has a legit case for best Glitch in 2k history. This is going to be a dog fight and Howard will have his hands full. Zingis is greatly more skilled and has the upper hand in terms of array of moves.

Howard has just been great for the Blazers and his ability as an elite defender and rebounder is something not all Centers have in their repertoire, but he does. It seems like he brings it on every play and every game, at least 2k which is how it should be played. The winner of this matchup will most definitely set the tone for the interior defense.

OUR PICK – Portland Trail Blazers:

Although the Mavs has the frontcourt advantage because of how dominant Zingis, I believe the Blazers can compensate for that with the amount of three pointers they take and if they get hot, watch out. Also resident stand-up comedian Dwight Howard will try to balance that equation and reduce the damage taken. Mavs will try to take this game inside to their big and Van Vleet has been a revelation for the Mavs, however everybody, except maybe Dwight, can make a three pointer on that team and I’m predicting 40+ attempts for the Blazers team that is defying math this season with how good they are! Should be a great one and the outside shooting should take the edge.
Blazers blazing in 4.
