Can Worst Record Ever Be Avoided?
As the season winds down, the only thing Golden State has to play for is to not be the worst team in the history of the NSL. The 2021/22 Lakers finished the season with 8 wins, a number that is still attainable by this Warriors team. Golden State enters the final week of the season having won just 6 games this season and 4 games remaining. The opportunity to not be the worst team ever is sitting in front of the Dubs.
The schedule is tricky with a road trip to Texas to play Houston and Dallas. The Rockets are currently two games above the play-in positions and will be aiming to avoid adding extra games to their season. Expect Houston to go all out to avoid the play-in during the last week of the season and go into the playoffs ready to cause an upset in the first round. The Mavs sit comfortably with the second worst record this season and therefore know their odds at landing the top pick. This could be a game the Warriors are able to win and get them closer to their goal.
Following the trips to Texas, the Warriors return home to end the season with games against San Antonio and the Lakers. Those two team are among the cream of the crop sitting at or near the top of the league standings, stealing a win from either team could cause a shakeup in the first round matchups. Assuming the Warriors lose to the Spurs, the schedule lines up perfectly for a Dubs/Lakers matchup to decide if the Warriors own the worst record ever or if they can tie the Lakers from just a couple seasons ago.
