Its tough being a Sacramento fan
Most of you would know that I am a huge Kings fan by now, and yes it really does pain me to tell you this. No one understands why, not even me. Maybe I am just lured to the purple and black. Or maybe it was back when I was 12 and first decided to follow the NBA and there was this cool Serbian guy who could shoot it from the carpark. His name is Peja Stojakovic.
Growing up I loved shooting the 3 ball, I still do. The allure of Peja was one of amazement, he made it look so effortless. At the time and for year later I thought he would be the best shooter ever, well at least in the conversation with Ray Ray and Reggie until the new guy on the block Chef Curry rocked up. Anyway back to my Serbian lover.
Supporting the Kings founded my love for the NBA, and I followed them dearly. So much so, that I think I started following them the year after the ultra controversial Lakers series, which they 100% were robbed. F u everyone who disagrees. After Kobe broke my beloved Bibby's nose and Shaq dominated the FT line, my blood started to bubble.
Since my time as a supporter, we have not once made the playoffs. I am beginning to think that I am the curse. The franchise has been known over this time to be probably the worst run, worst draft picks and worst place to play. Still, I remain hopeful. Yes, I still do not understand why I go for these guys who will spend the rest of their days on the rotational 10th-13th spots in the West.
Maybe I am an idiot, maybe I am too loyal. I also follow the North Melbourne Kangaroos in the AFL who notoriously suck balls also. There is definitely something more than just a coincidence at play here.
Nonetheless, Peja rocked, the early 2000's Kings rocked, I will still be a fan in 50 years time, and gee I am hoping we can win one in that time. Also go Haligoat, he rocks too.
'And if you dont like that, you dont like NBA basketball!'
