It's been a while...
It's been a while since we've heard some news from Phoenix(about 5 years to be exact) and i swear its got nothing to do with needing a GM point...
But lets have a chat about where we're at, what we're excited about and where we're going.
Where we're at:
Going into the season, after bringing in Dame and moving KAT for a move to round out depth, we expected to be around the .500 mark. At the time of writing we're 30-28 which were pretty happy with considering we have on/off again injuries every week. Dame has been everything as expected and the offence is built around him. Middleton has been a solid 2IC and in spite of calls of him being washed, he continues to drop 20/5/4 on solid % numbers. Shaedon Sharpe has taken huge strides this season and has embraced the 6th man role in a mature way the last few weeks, solidifying himself as one of the best weapons off the bench in the NSL. On the defensive side of things, Poeltl has been fantastic, applying himself as a great anchor and controlling the boards on a nightly basis whilst guys like KCP(now moved for Brooks), Dean Wade and Kris Dunn giving problems to opposition defenders on the perimeter. All in all, we're actually pretty satisfied with how we've played and where we are at this season.
What we're excited about:
The FO and coaching staff are huge believers in Shaedon Sharpe. We believe once it all comes together and his real affiliate moves on the guys who keep taking the ball out of his hands whenever they feel like it, hes going to be a legitimate offensive star in the league. While his defence has improved over the last couple of months, there's still room for improvement but if theres ever been an untouchable guy on a Phoenix roster? it's him. This season he has improved in almost every statistical category and has embraced the 6th man role assigned to him midway through the season, pacing the 2nd unit on a nightly basis. If he continues this trajectory and when Herb returns next season, there's a very real chance he competes with Middleton for that 2nd option in the starting 5 next season.
Big Moose, the recent acquisition from the Raptors, has fast found himself amongst the FO and staffs favourite players. He just brings it everytime hes on the court and provides energy and spark few guys his size bring. Still raw in areas, but only 23, Diabate will be considered a very important piece going forward.
Where we're going:
While this offseason saw a lot of the youth move on and bring in guys capable of helping the team win now, we still feel comfortable about our long term future. While Dame and Middleton are on the wrong side of 30, Dame is still elite, even having one of the best seasons of his 12 year career in the NBA and we're comfortable there is still a few years of high end basketball coming from him. Middleton has dealt with health issues, but still brings elite perimeter scoring with him, the intangibles we all love and still provides a good defensive option aswell. While it feels like Poeltl has been around forever hes still only 29(as is Dillon Brooks) and there's still plenty of basketball left in those 2. Herb is only 26, Diabate 23, Sharpe still only 21 and we like what we've seen from Pacome Dadiet, who is only 19. New pickup Jaden Soringer(22) has the tools to be a Avery Bradley type which would be very welcome to the team as well.
As always, we just want to compete. It hurts my balls sitting there playing for lottery slips, The suns will just keep on keeping on and try to win as many games as possible and annoy the other higher rated teams.
