End of an Era - Thank you, Jamal

The End of an Era

The Jamal Era has ended. The Brooklyn Nets have parted ways after four enigmatic years. GM Breece penned an open letter to fans addressing the impact of Murray today.

Jamal Murray came to the Nets with a lot of hope placed upon his shoulders. A pressure that may have been overly big and all consuming for such a young player. He took it in his stride. Injury fizzled much of that hunger and desire meaning we got only a glimmer of what he could do.

When he joined our organisation, we needed a leader, having parted with Kemba Walker and Andre Drummond, we needed a new pathway, and through the times of Kyrie, Khris, Ivica, Jusef, and others, Jamal remained our engine.

You cannot undersell the impact he has had on the Brooklyn Nets organisation and community - he has amassed over 5000 points for us. Over 1000 assists. Over 150 steals. And countless highlight moments.

In a team that has been through it all - high and lows and all the inbetweens, Jamal has never been found wanting. He joins the San Antonio Spurs, with championship aspirations. At times, I have often wondered what he must be thinking as he has seen others leave our organisation and achieve greatness elsewhere. We wish him every success; now and toward the future. This marks the new era - that of Zach Lavine. Zach has all the traits that we love and he presents us with a continuing roster of talented young players hungry for success.’

Jamal Murray and fan favourite Jevon Carter make way. The team is in transition and it seems as though the front office have been busy. The phones have been non-stop. Not only have we seen the departure of the two point guards, young forward Josh Minott has departed to Phoenix for the veteran guard Monte Morris, and young guard Johnny ‘Bravo’ Juzang has departed for Portland for 3 year board monster Luka Garza

A new direction for the Brooklyn Nets, and an opportunity to build toward the future. GM Breece has outlined that the future is firmly in the hands of Lavine and Ingram, with Lauri Markkanen’s future pending.

From everyone at the Brooklyn Nets - “Thank you for the time, Jamal Murray
