Brooklyn Nets - Post FA New Era
Brooklyn Nets - Post FA New Era The Nets find themselves in a new era with a large salary bill attached. But like the large bill, so too are the prospects and incentives for this team. GM Breece has been methodically picking apart this team over years and has been able to put the organisation and the locker room into a position where they can be successful and competitive. It has not been without pain - well document pains that have left the board of directors scratching their heads. However, now is not the time to dwell on past potholes and hurdles, it is a new chapter and post FA the methodical approach to acquisition has “paid off” according to Breece. Firstly after completing his outreach program, Nets Nation welcomes fan favourite, Tyus Jones. 2022 was the year that Tyus Jones elected to sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder. After being promised a starting spot in the Nets lineup, he chose to bring his talents to OKC. 2024 he returns. In a new look team, with a new role to play alongside Jamal Murray, Brandon Ingram, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Derek Lively II. The idea would be to retain, given his one year contract. How he will be used is still up for debate, whether he runs the point to unleash Murray, or to play off the bench to run the secondary. All that matters is that he is back, and his maturation should prove to be a winning factor in Brooklyn. “He fell into our laps. We had him penned as an option with the space we had to sign a player to help the guard rotation, and late in the day his name was read, and we proudly pounced at the opportunity.” He is a wiry point that can cause headaches, dish the ball, and create his own shot. His ability to link up should give a significant edge for the team, and add to the running of the court with Carter taking more of a 4th string role with the signing of shadow-profile Jamal Shead. Brooklyn welcomes Tyus Jones with open arms. Farewell
Farewell Kelly Oubre and Cody Zeller. The Brooklyn Nets never intended for Oubre to go, however due to pay disputes they were unable to reacquire. He is thanked for his services and should do well in his new home in Boston. Zeller - the 99 man - had to also go, with a budgeting issue, the Nets realised late that Cody needed to go. With a new man coming in to fill Cody’s shoes, he is expected to do well in his new home in Charlotte. Bon voyage boys! Nets Nation also welcomes back… Since 2022, Alex Len has been a proud member of the Brooklyn Nets. His respect and profile in the NSL is one of great appreciation. He has that ability to hold up the center position on his own, and has been a shining example of how you do not need to be the 80+ to make an impact. His mentorship with Derek Lively II is in full effect and will continue to provide for the organisation with his rim protection and shot blocking abilities. KCP got paid. When he was acquired from the Toronto Raptors in a deal that saw the tiresome center Jusuf Nurkic leave, the organisation was pleased to have a shot-making, lock down player of his caliber. It cannot be understated how impressive he has been and the way he can open up the court for Murray and Ingram. He will have a lot of responsibilities in this upcoming season, and it was “a necessity to have him (KCP) return for team balance and chemistry.” He signed the dotted line officially, and the locker room is a buzz with his return, and his bank account is happy too. Nets Nation welcomes… Xavier Tillman Snr Tillman is an undersized center that can play the power forward. With Zeller parting ways due to pay disputes, it was an area that the organisation wanted to cover. Having Len, Portis, Markkanen, Lively in the rotation, the Brooklyn Nets thought another presence was needed and Tillman fit the brief. He has been a clear favourite in many locker rooms and his defensive skillset is one that the organisation thought would be needed. Given the clear offensive weaponry that the roster has, Tillman can bring some body and presence to the post - with his handy stealing and blocking ability on the defensive end, and his inside scoring ability on the other. Tillman should have a fantastic two year stint at the Nets.
