New Horizons, New Territory
New Horizons, New Territory, New Lens
As the season looks to conclude, the Nets seek to new fortunes and proceed
with a new lens on life in the NSL. The Nets sit inside the Play-In window
entering into the final week of the regular season, and with four games against
Dallas, Detroit, Atlanta, and Milwaukee, the Nets will be hoping to secure one
of the final positions. The other two teams vying for the spots are the Miami
Heat and Charlotte Hornets, both who earned wins on the Nets during the Week 19
clashes.
However, with the return of Lively and Markkanen, the Nets look ready to
snag that allusive final spot. Lively has been a huge influence on the team,
and his size and ability to board have made him a fan favourite already at age
20. Markkanen has been in a limbo period for much of the season, finding his
role and footing and the talk is that he will have a more present involvement
in the line-up in Week 20.
The guard play in Brooklyn has been widely discussed since the move to
trade Kyrie Irving. Brooklyn have found a varied play in the ball-use of
Murray, Micic, and Carter. All three have been able to bring a different
skillset and make-up that has allowed for the Nets to cause problems for most
outfits – bringing a scoring edge with Murray, a flashiness and IQ in Micic,
and a lockdown outside threat in Carter. The hope will be that they all remain
healthy.
Which brings us to the missing piece, Brandon Ingram. Since joining the
Nets he has been Mr Consistent in his provision by comparison to his New
Orleans numbers. But he will need to find that edge on the efficiency end if
the Nets are serious in the play-in/play offs. He is a vital cog, and one that
GM Breece has been hugely complimentary of, ‘BI is a guy we look to for that extra something, we
wanted a guy like him to steady the ship with our floor and locker room leader
in Jamal. He has slotted into this organisation with all the professionalism
you’d expect… we just need him on the court.’
With at least three winnable games on the line, the Brooklyn Nets stand
on the precipice their first NSL play-in game. At their best they can rock the
boat, and cause a stir. We at Net Nation think they can do it! Make your voices
heard! Make it to the upcoming games, and let’s cheer our team to the play-in!
