New Look Nets

New Look Nets

In moves that caused waves in the NSL, the Brooklyn Nets parted with coveted All-Star guard, Kyrie Irving. With analytics galore, the GM Breece decided to pull the trigger and instigate changes for the future. Evaluating the trajectory of the current crop, the organisation decided to invest in progress and potential, over instant impact. In the current swells of the NSL landscape, the ever-competitive league was cause for change. The catalyst inevitably being, the loggerhead situation with both Kyrie Irving and Jamal Murray. Under the tutelage of Irving, Murray has excelled, but according to sources close to the Nets organisation the two had developed a friendly rivalry that on the surface presented as a jovial and jocular connection, but underneath seemed the makings of a rifle with both players wanting to be the alpha. Throw into the mix the age gap and similar skillsets, ultimately one of them needed to make way

In the wake of the trade, the Nets have seen a more impressive turn in results, and a playing style that has been noted as being exciting, fun to watch, hard to defend and must watch. Newly acquired players have come straight into the mix and with instant impact for a team looking to compete, but with a window of opportunity for years to come.

Ingram has come in and instantly added to the excitement machine. His capabilities in contributing across the board was a part of the allure for the gun forward to join the Nets franchise. His capability and complementary skills with Murray and Markkanen make for potentially the most exciting trio in the league from an age and progression stand-point. Ingram has managed 26 points per game, 4 boards and 3 assists highly impactful numbers while shooting 49% from the field. MIM is in full effect, and the league is on notice as they progressively click.

Lively II is the perfect fit for the Brooklyn Nets. Young and with plenty of growth, Lively has been able to be the starter for the Nets without issue. He has struck a mentee role under Alex Len and Cody Zeller, one which has enabled him to grow his game and learn from two vets of the league. GM Breece has been searching for the next starting center since the departure of Andre Drummondwhen Dereck became available, we leapt. We had tracked his college game, and his starting weeks of the NSL, and were highly impressed. Big fans. The hope is that Lively will become a mainstay in Brooklyn and become the pillar of strength to protect on the defensive end.

Bobby Portis has entered the Brooklyn Nets having already proven himself in previous campaigns and having had an excellent start to season 23/24 in Cleveland. A massive carrot in the Austin Reaves movement, Portis has already begun his Brooklyn career with near double-double numbers. Swinging between the starting lineup and the bench, Portis is the new go-to guy, as he has proven he can lead the Power Forward or the Center slots; providing support on the bench as well. Keeping turnovers low, steals and blocks to 1 a game, and shooting 46% have added to why the Nets made the move for him.

Oubre was brought into the lineup as a supplementary scorer, or primary target if needed. He has only added to his production and abilities in Brooklyn, linking up with Brooklyn fan-favourite, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Oubre has more to give and his abilities have been seen instantaneously in the Brooklyn lineup, leading the bench scoring and causing headaches in the switch. GM Breece is a believer, and moves will be made to make sure that Oubre returns to the borough, and sees his game grow even more hoping to make a dynamic 5 eventually.

The final piece of the puzzle was to bring in a handler. A player who if called upon could lead the guard slot in the absence of star general Jamal Murray. The Nets found the rookie-vet of all rookie-vets. Micic has slotted into the team was ease. His inclusion and impact was stifled, mainly due to acclimation pains, and the assessment of Jevon Carter. Week 13 however has seen a huge uptake in the impact of Micic. 2 games into his starters minutes, Micic has been 10 points and 11 assists against the fiery Cleveland Cavaliers and, 4 points and 7 assists in a hard fought win against Denver. All the while keeping turnovers to a minimum against Jalen Brunson, and Stephen Curry.
