Playoff Primer

It’s almost that time of year. Everyone’s favorite time of year. The days grow longer, the air gets warmer, the sun shines brighter, the snow melts away and the leaves return to their beautiful colors. Yep, that's right, it’s playoff time bitches. And with the playoffs just 4-5 short weeks away, it’s time to start talking about them. In Indy’s case, talking about our potential first round opponents.

First of all, Indy has come a long way since last season. Last year after ending with a bottom 5 record, things finally turned around for the better. Landing the 1st overall pick and drafting a generational talent, Wemby has led this Indy team into a top 6 record in the east and are currently sitting at 6th with a couple game lead over the 7th place Knicks, but also just a couple games behind the 5th place Cavs. With that being said, as of now it looks like there 3 potential opponents for this Indy team, so let's do a brief overview of each potential match.

First is our current slated matchup as the 6th seed. If the season ended today, we would play the 3rd seed 76er’s. And let me tell you, they are dangerous. DeAaron Fox is a bonafide superstar and a serious MVP candidate this season. Along with him is a flurry of talented guards. Marcus Smart, Malcolm Brogdon, Russell Westbrook, and Norman Powell. That is easily the best 5 guard rotation in the league with no real close second. This team has a real chance to make some noise in the east, and should be considered to be the favorites to make the ECF outside of Mil, all of this of course, as long as they can stay healthy. Indy’s guards will have a tough time against this team, but with no true size on the wings besides Wiggins, and no real interior size to compete with Wemby, Siakam, and Collins, this is a series that could easily go 7, and be a real slugfest.

2nd would be if Indy ended the season in 5th place, passing Cleveland. We would end up playing 4th seed Boston. This is arguably the worst matchup of the 3 for Indy because they are the opposite of Philly. Boston may lack Guard depth, but they make it up with Size. Tatum, Deni, Kuminga, Whitmore, Barrett, Wiseman, and Sochan, thisteam has the wing size, and interior talent to slow down our size and cause us real trouble. Oh yea, and there’s their star Duo in Garland and Tatum. Garland, a shifty PG and crafty passer, paired with a top player like Tatum? Spells trouble for anyone. But their biggest issue is how far will they be able to go after losing Sengun, after going down with a season ending injury in the mists of a breakout season.

The 3rd and final potential matchup would be the 2nd seed Washington. The Wizards have all but locked the 2 seed, but this is arguably the most favorable matchup of the 3 for Indy. Why you ask? Because outside of LeBron and Booker, the team is, well, lackluster. Two Midseason Mega deals for Superstar LeBron James and star guard Zach Lavine seemed to have this team primed to compete with Mil with a new deadly trio, that was until Lavine was ruled out for the season and the team was hit with a rash wave of injuries. Now the star duo of James and Booker is the last line of defense, and offense keeping their title hopes alive. But the rest of the team, outside of Capela, and that’s healthy, there are a lot of unknowns. SO if Indy is about to shut down at least one of Bron or Book, this series could end up flipping on Washington real fast.

The playoffs are a wonderful time of year, competitive games, clutch shots and game winners. It’s a time everyone looks forward too and at the same time, everyone dreads the potential of heartbreak that constantly looms. Either way, it’s gonna be one fun ride.
