It's time for the talk.
Alright folks, it’s week 15, and you know what that means. It means that we are ¾’s of the way through the NSL season and playoffs are right around the corner. With that in mind, it’s also time to have a discussion about a certain player. Yep, you guessed it, Emoni Bates, and how he’s been killing it in the GLeague. Nah, I'm just kidding. I’m gonna talk about the guy everyone is sick of hearing about, but will unfortunately be hearing about him for as long as time. It’s time to talk about Victor Wembenyama and his historic rookie season. Victor Wembanyama is a 7’4 Center that hails from the land of Baguettes and Revolutions called France. Wemby hailing from the land of Revolutions is ironic in the fact that he has revolutionized this Indy team. His numbers in his rookie season are numbers we have never seen anyone, let alone a rookie, put up before. With averages of 25.2ppg/13.1rpg/3.2apg/1.5spg and a whooping 5.3bpg on 56/44/86 splits, Wemby has been the franchise star and more this team envisioned him to be. Oh and by the way, did we mention he’s only in his rookie season? Because he’s only in his rookie season. Wemby is essentially a lock for ROTY, should be at minimum a finalist for DPOY, and will most likely end up on the All-Rookie, All-Defense, and All-NSL teams. Wemby will continue to get better as the years go on, and despite not being in a prime position to win a title this year, GM Yeet has done his best (despite his own fumbles) to place a great team around him and have this Pacers squad smack dab in the middle of the playoff race in the east. This Pacers squad has its franchise cornerstone in Wemby, a solid young core to grow along with him in Scoot, Murray, Nesmith, Collins, Ayo and Goga, and some seasoned vets to teach him the ropes in Siakam and Conley. That’s not to mention the many amazing players that will come and go over the years. This team may not be title caliber this year, but rest assured, starting next season, this Pacer squad should be on everyone’s radar to make some real noise for many seasons to come.
