4 Week Rookie Report
4 Week Rookie Report Before the season started the Indiana Pacers were considered a dangerous foe in the eastern conference. However after a night of drinking and a panic deal, the team now sits in the middle of the conference, banged and bruised, hoping to get fully healthy in time to make a push for a playoff spot. However not all is lost, in this storm is some light pushing through the clouds, getting some young players to surround Wemby with for years to come in hopes of one day building a championship caliber team. But for now, let's take a look at how Indiana's 4 rookies are shaping up 4 weeks into the season. Victor Wembenyama. Center: 21.4ppg, 12rpg, 3.2apg, 0.6spg, 5.3bpg. Splits: 50/47/86. Wemby couldnt have had a better start to his rookie campaign. He currently leads all rookies in scoring and rebounding, and not only also leads them in blocks, but leads the entire league in blocks per game. The hype that surrounded Wemby pre draft and the amount of praise hes received from the Indy GM so far have been rightful in such. If Wemby continues to play this way, ROTY might not be the only award he takes home come the end of the season. SF/PF: 6.4ppg, 1.7rpg, 1.2apg, 0.1spg. Splits: 46/56/81 Dariq Whitehead has had an up and down start to the season. Hes been a solid role player so far and a lights out shooter, but his defense has been much to be desired, causing him to be in and out of the rotation. The hope in the coming months is that Whitehead potentially gets reps whenever he gets the chance to continue to improve his talents and hopefully works on his defense enough this season so that he can become a full time rotation player next season. PG/SG: 0.5ppg, 0.3rpg, 1apg, 0.5spg Splits: 25/NA/NA Porter was brought up and has been with the team all season long because of injuries to the guard rotation. However in the short time he has played, he's shown flashes of real potential. Porter Jrs athleticism is what really leaps out. Given time and proper training, he can potentially be the team's backup PG down the road. Emoni Bates: SF/PF: (GLeague Stats) 24.8ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.6apg, 1.5spg, 1.3bpg Splits: (Gleague Splits) 45/41/71 Emoni is the only rookie for Indy that has yet to see any player time with the team, however that doesnt mean he isn't playing well. Bates has been light out in the GLeague, currently fourth in scoring in the league (was first for the first couple weeks) and has been a sharpshooter for his team as well. At 69 Bates is unique being able to shoot so well over his defenders because of his height. With Bates, its all about time. Give him the time he needs to refine his game, put on some weight and polish things up so hopefully in the next year or two, he can become a main staple of the big club. Indianas rookie class is special, the top overall pick is arguably one of the best players in the league and the other 3 rookies ll have the potential of becoming main rotation players for the team in a short time down the road. If all 4 can keep up the work ethic, it wouldnt be surprising to see them all on the floor at the same time one day.
