Nothing But NETS
Nothing But NETS
Fundamentally the Nets organisation has been on the precipice
of greatness with the looming spears and daggers waiting in the catacombs. GM
Breece was open about the need for consistency and operational flow, but with
the fortunes severed stacked against the Brooklyn outfit, the cries fell on
deaf ears. You dont plan to fail, we
didnt fail to plan, we just didnt expect the car that pulled out from the
side-street, Breece crytically stating in the his end of season
press-conference.
Shining lights came to the fore, and the team presented a
lacklustre showing compared with many pundits projections. Change is necessary.
As the Einstein adage goes, insanity is doing the same thing over and
over and expecting different results. That seems to be the mantra that the
Nets front office have gone with as they seek to better the end outcomes. This
was evident with the calculated risk of sending all-star Khris Middleton and
lively defensive youngster Herb Jones to Golden State, in return for volatile
superstar point guard Kyrie Irving.
This seemed a risk worth taking to create a tandem guard
pairing that could cause problems in season 23-24. Becoming the first part of
the forward planning in Brooklyn.
Point Guard locked up with Kyrie, and backed up by Jamal
Murray (off the back of a monstrous performance in the NBA playoffs). Allowing
Jamal to slide to the Shooting Guard position. Creating a 1-2 pairing that
could cause problems for most teams in the NSL.
We are proud of all of
our players. We are proud of our unit. However, never confuse pride for
complacency. We know we arent there yet. We wont mince words with all
involved. The pride we have needs to result in wins thats the true sign of
character and strength in this league. Without wins, that pride is as valuable
as a limp fortune cookie in a gutter that reads Today is your day!
The question looming was the in-between game for the Nets,
seeing their fortunes slaughtered and dashed by talented forwards time and time
again. Not even Middleton or Jones could stifle such talents. The Nets made a
bold decision to send their beloved big man out to division rivals, the Toronto
Raptors. In return the organisation found their man in Kentavious
Caldwell-Pope. Jusuf Nurkic had been a juggernaut for the team, and his
services were greatly respected. A bitter pill to swallow, the front office was
also about to secure draft capital.
Likewise, the side said goodbye to DeAnthony Melton to the
Portland Trailblazers. The Melton move was one to sure up the backcourt with
Daniel Theis in return, and several second round picks. This allows the Nets to
have a double selection back to back in the upcoming draft. The talent at picks
41 and 42 are quality in prospect and talent, and could find secondary player
minutes to back up the now solidified starting unit.
With more to come in draft, and free agency, the Brooklyn
Nets are poised for greener pastures. The link up from the 1-4 is something to
get excited about. With the hope that Kyrie Irving pencils a deal to stay in
Brooklyn.
Irving/Murray/KCP/Markkanen
A combination that should bring smiles to the Brooklyn
faithful.
More to come in the coming days!
