Who Are You...Again?
Well, here we are again! The eighteenth iteration of league basketball for one general manager. A fruitful ride that has made LJ Maverick a plethora of life-long friends. Nay. Brothers and sisters. We welcome another year and give thanks where it is due.
The 2022/2023 Dallas Mavericks are a melting pot of youth and some wily veterans. To be honest, it's a melting pot of pain and suffering. The off-season threw more curveballs than Dave Stewart or Matt Keough (to use a baseball reference). The idea began with trading of Kevin Durant during the season. The thought was to maximize the talent for a superstar that was heading nowhere with the club. The mistake came in two different scenarios. First the trading of Brandon Ingram for what at the time was to salvage the future of the team -- one that was not well thought out in a haste move. The second was choosing Jalen Brunson over Julius Randle in the "what-big-cap-salary-guy-can-we-afford-to-keep" scenario. The overwhelming thought was that Brunson would surely re-sign with the team that believed in his abilities. They were wrong. Brunson left for greener pastures and daddy's bedroom for comfort.
With the likes of veterans, Gordon Hayward, Myles Turner, Christian Wood and Bobby Portis and a bevy of youngsters, the NSL Dallas Mavericks are poised to have a long but fun season. Of course, more moves are on the horizon. The team does not have their own pick this season, so they will try to be as competitive as possible with the talent they have left. The cupboard may seem bare to most, but the faithful in Dallas think otherwise.
Draft picks Mark Williams, Ousmane Dieng and Nikola Jovic will be thrust immediately into important minutes throughout the season. Newly acquired Rui Hachimura and Malachi Flynn will also have to bolster the thin bench and play out-of-ordinary starter minutes to be sure.
