Orlando Magic - Power Ranking
Week | Rank | Rating | Team | Record | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
15 | 27 | 13 | Orl | 3-9 | "Magic" by Olivia Newton-John "Magic" is an uplifting song about believing in oneself and the power of dreams. Its ethereal sound complements lyrics that encourage listeners to trust in their abilities and embrace the possibilities that life offers, reinforcing the idea that with self-confidence, anything is achievable. A young team looking towards the future current injuries be damned. Having the same name make the choice even easier. Anything can happen as long as you believe. |
14 | 24 | 23 | Orl | 4-8 | 24. Orlando Magic (Kenya) The Magic's 'safari economy' explores uncharted territories, similar to Kenya's tourism sector, seeking 'adventure' and 'growth' in developing their 'wildlife' of talent. The Kyrie experience is one that you sometimes have to ride - like a rollercoaster: it can be exhilerating, but it can also be nauseating. |
13 | 28 | 8 | Orl | 2-10 | The trusty old baseball bat- Not the deadliest weapon but can absolutely get the job done. We know what to expect from Mailo's squad, they'll always put forward their best and try to overcome their victim though they are sometimes overpowered by heavier artillery. There's no doubt they've left a few gms with concussion over the years, and this season with a fully healthy Kyrie swinging for the fences. |
12 | 24 | 18 | Orl | 3-9 | Orlando Magic - "Rico Suave" – Gerardo (1990) Catchy, but mostly a novelty song, the Magic haven’t been able to make the novelty of having Kyrie Irving work to full effect….yet. I think they can. I think they have many of the moves pieces to make things more than a fleeting hit. They can definitely manufacture more in Orlando - GM Mailo will need to get creative to avoid obscurity. |
11 | 24 | 25 | Orl | 4-9 | Orlando Magic: The Goblin Horde 🧙♂️🗡️ Why? The Magic channel the chaotic energy of a goblin war band – unpredictable, scrappy, and led by a cunning shaman who bends reality with trickery. Kyrie Irving (92 OVR) is the Goblin Shaman, weaving spells of ankle-breaking handles and impossible finishes while his ragtag tribe swarms foes with frenetic hustle. Goblin Shaman (Kyrie’s Sorcery): Irving dances like a hex-bladed trickster, his handles ("Uncle Drew" mode) and clutch shooting casting illusions that leave defenders tripping over their own feet. Boulder Flingers (Brute Force): Jarrett Allen and Naz Reid are the horde’s ogre enforcers, smashing the glass and swatting shots with clubbed fists. Allen’s 6’9” frame is a battering ram; Reid’s stretch-5 shooting is a boulder dipped in Greek fire. Swarm Tactics (Chaotic Minions): PJ Washington and Ayo Dosunmu are the shrieking goblin horde – Washington clawing at rebounds, Dosunmu pickpocketing ball-handlers like a sneaky cutpurse. Rookie Reed Sheppard (72 OVR) scurries underfoot, lobbing grenades (err… threes) from the shadows. Rat King Veteran (Mike Conley): Conley is the grizzled rat-king, directing traffic with geriatric wisdom. His 17-year experience is a rusty dagger – still sharp enough to draw blood. |
10 | 20 | 41 | Orl | 6-7 | Houdini stuck in a Milk Can - Widely believed to be the greatest of all time, Houdini performed feats of magic and magicianship unseen. The Orlando Magic have done that with inconsistency - finding ways to show zest, zing and kapow in their games; thoroughly driven by magician guard Kyrie Irving. But right now they seem to be stuck. Unable to open the latch and remove themselves from the milk can, and in between breaths. Can they manage this escape in time? Can they find that extra something? Can that leave us speechless at their abilties? |
9 | 22 | 41 | Orl | 6-7 | Theon Greyjoy - Mixed feelings with Theon. Was a bit of a brat early on. Then became an asshole when he betrayed the Starks. Then we felt sorry for him after he was tortured and completed broken by Ramsey Bolton. He realised his wrongs and did all he can to rectify them, by helping his sister get back the Iron Islands and also rescue Sansa Stark. He died protecting Bran and fighting for his own redemption. |
8 | 20 | 34 | Orl | 5-7 | |
7 | 26 | 15 | Orl | 3-9 | The Frog Prince (Orlando) Starts as a slimy amphibian but transforms into royalty with true love. Can the Orlando Magic transform? With no first round pick next season, they will be hoping the kiss comes soon! Kyrie and Allen could build an impressive combination in Orlando, but it has been a waiting game. At the moment it is more frog than prince, and they will need to turn things around, sitting 27th on the Power Rankings and at the bottom of the East. |
6 | 25 | 17 | Orl | 3-9 | Merida (Brave) - I didn't purposefully stick to Pixar characters of the same sex for comparisons, but we have arrived here and the similarities between Merida in a man's world, and one of Germany's greatest (fantasy) basketball exports thriving in the NSL, were too hard to ignore. Merida loves her kingdom and is strong of mind and character, refusing to do things in a manner that aren't befitting of her beliefs. Mailo runs her Magic in a similar fashion, choosing her own path and listening little to the voices who tell her she should or shouldn't be doing it the way she wants. |
5 | 22 | 16 | Orl | 3-9 | Valak/The Nun (The Conjuring 2/The Nun) - As one of the most successful film franchises in Horror History, the Conjuring stands as a shining light of box-office horror. The Nun however was a significant let-down with many slamming the lack of anything original - this is where Orlando have found themselves. Especially given the terror that could be unleashed in Kyrie Irving. Much like the terrifying presence of Valak, whose existence lingers, ever-present and relentless in pursuing its goal, the Orlando Magic have the ability but cannot make it happen. GM Mailo has developed dominant defense (Brogdon, Allen) and have a legacy of terror on the court against their opponents akin to Valak’s terrifying, unstoppable nature. IN the darkness they wait… “I am the darkness.” |
4 | 24 | 26 | Orl | 4-8 | Captain Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Carribean. This is an iconic character, that seems like it was one Johnny Depp was born to do. These movies might have fallen off the more they made, but the first three are amazing. Sparrow is like the lovable anti-hero who seems to end up doing the right thing from time to time. His main goal initially was getting his beloved black pearl (his ship) back after he was mutinied against, but his journey leads him down a lot of different paths. |
3 | 28 | 14 | Orl | 3-9 | The Magic have done a good job retooling their team, on paper they look like they’d mesh well with a good balance of offense and defense. Unfortunately they’ll be without Cam Thomas for the foreseeable future. Still, it’s early in the season and I wouldn’t count this team out yet. |
2 | 27 | 8 | Orl | 2-6 | "Help!" - The Beatles- Kyrie needs some help down in Orlando, Brogdon may be just what has been needed though as he had a very great first game. Nobody else is even in the double digit rankings in NSL besides Kyrie and Brogdon, which Brogdon's only played one game. |
1 | 29 | -6 | Orl | 0-4 | 'GOOD RIDDANCE!' scream the Magic fans as Zion leaves the Orlando Magic to sit on the bench in Los Angeles as a co-Tank Commander. Kyrie could be the most talented player to put on an NSL Orlando uniform, and the output of the Magic surely climbs after the exciting add. |
