Detroit Pistons - Power Ranking
Week | Rank | Rating | Team | Record | Comment |

16 | 17 | 39 | Det | 5-7 | I honestly think the Pistons have really tried to flick the switch and start winning some games this season. But it hasn't really worked out. Injuries have been a factor, but so too has a potential stubbornness on Sheed's part to deal with certain teams. The recent acquisition of Trae Young has so far payed dividends from a health perspective. Lets see if they can make a push for the play-ins, as right now they remain a few games out and without their first round pick. |
15 | 21 | 27 | Det | 4-8 | "Careless Whisper" by Wham! "Careless Whisper" is a poignant ballad about guilt and remorse following an act of infidelity. The haunting saxophone melody complements lyrics that reflect on betrayal, the loss of trust, and the longing for redemption in the aftermath of a broken relationship. A jilted star moved on, teammates there to pick up the pieces. This is the aftermath of super star trades in the league. Another young star in. |
14 | 27 | 16 | Det | 3-10 | 27. Detroit Pistons (Mozambique) The Pistons' 'emerging market' status mirrors Mozambique's 'developing economy,' showing 'promise' with 'strategic investments' in young talent, aiming for 'economic growth' and 'stability' on the court. A change of guard star in Trae might be the fix they have been looking for; Pistons basketball could be on the up. |
13 | 26 | 12 | Det | 3-10 | Revolver- Deadly in the hands of a skilled marksman which is this man Sheed, the wildest in the East. While this isn't the most dangerous version of the Pistons, they are to be feared. On the right night they can slay almost any enemy with their fast hands and range. Brunson is their Sherrif badge (star) and they're always able to take down an outlaw. |
12 | 23 | 24 | Det | 4-9 | Detroit Pistons - "Tubthumping" – Chumbawamba (1997) Fun at first, but repetitive, and leading to misunderstandings. The song is a parody gone wrong. The band never meant for it to be more than tongue and cheek, and the Pistons have misunderstood the assignment lately too. The team have 4-9 in the recent run of form, and definitely would be wanting more with star guard Brunson. Between now and the next PR, they might need a whiskey drink, vodka drink, lager drink, and cider drink to numb the pain. . |
11 | 22 | 34 | Det | 5-8 | Detroit Pistons: The Gelatinous Cube 🟢🌀 D&D Monster Classification: Gelatinous Cube Why? The Pistons embody the slow, plodding nature of a Gelatinous Cube – a creature that absorbs whatever crosses its path but lacks the speed or coordination to dominate. Their struggles this season reflect the Cube’s sluggish, aimless movement. Ooze Core (Absorbing Potential): Jalen Brunson is the Cube’s nucleus, a sticky playmaker who absorbs defensive pressure and spits out assists. Dissolving Edges (Inconsistent Absorption): Ivica Zubac and Kyle Kuzma provide fleeting moments of solidity, but their contributions often dissolve into the Cube’s amorphous mass. Trapped Debris (Misfit Pieces): Role player like Dennis Schröder float aimlessly within the Cube, their talents trapped in a gooey, uncoordinated mess. |
10 | 22 | 37 | Det | 5-8 | DMC DeLorean - the fabled car of the future made from used parts of old cars, the DeLorean was the brain-child / fever dream of John DeLorean. It looked amazing, and was an utter nightmare to drive. The Detroit Pistons have felt like that this PR. The gloss of all-star guard Jalen Brunson, and board monster efforts of Ivica Zubac haven't been enough - their are both very appealing wing-doors. At the same time, this team could turn a corner and become a Back to Future story. They have a team and a GM that could flip things to be a distant memory. It comes down to several factors - is this franchise bound for a glow-up or bound for a blow-up? |
9 | 14 | 54 | Det | 7-6 | Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight is also one of my favourite characters. He is a level headed loyal companion, who speaks the truth but is also very in tune with what is going on around him. He is a self made man, who came from nothing and became an all time smuggler, which seemed to land him in multiple positions of power where he was a trusted advisor. |
8 | 15 | 55 | Det | 7-5 | |
7 | 11 | 54 | Det | 7-5 | The Pied Piper - Detroit Hypnotizes entire towns and can lead people (or rats) to their doom. The Pistons have given teams a hard time and lured them to their doom, mainly due to the crafty efforts of their leader, Jalen Brunson. GM Sheed would be very pleased with his work, and he has cast a spell on the league with his current roster. The quiet dominance of Ivica Zubac has been exceptional and a huge catalyst for success in Detroit. Can GM Sheed and the Pistons continue to cast their beautifully enchanting and hypnotising tune across the league? |
6 | 14 | 44 | Det | 6-6 | Anger (Inside Out) - I know Sheed is a nice guy, and maybe it is just how he phrases his communications (blunt, unpunctuated) and how poorly he responds to communications, but I like to picture him talking in unreasonable outbursts of frustration and emotion just like Anger does. Sheed at his best was a perennial Finals participant and contender but since his rebuild, he has slinked back into the peripherals. The colourful supporting characters add flavour to the movie and Sheed adds surprise and spice to the NSL. |
5 | 21 | 24 | Det | 4-8 | Bagul (Sinister) - The Detroit Pistons have been known for their consistent underperformance despite talent, much like Bagul, who haunts and corrupts individuals over time. As a film, Sinister sits as one of the most loved films in horror circles - and yet Bagul isn’t a name that is known. It feels that way for the Pistons as they have an 4-8 record with a defined leader in Jalen Brunson, but it isn’t quite enough. They have the 8th spot in the East, and like Bagul’s creeping influence on his victims reflects how the Pistons have often been unable to escape their own history of disappointment, despite always having the pieces to succeed. But with a history of constant refinement, one thing is certain for all that question - “You’re not safe.” |
4 | 21 | 27 | Det | 4-8 | Frank Abagnale Jr - Catch Me If You Can. This is another one I feel could be higher as this is one of my favourite movies too. The fact it is based on a true story also makes it all the more impressive. Frank is a Entrepeneur.. well a criminal one. He learns from a young age how to do what he wants and get away with it. He learns how to forge checks to get cash, create fake certificates to become pilots and doctors and lead the police on a international goose chase. After years of perfecting his craft, once captured by the police uses his talents for good and works for the police fraud department in catching people trying to do what he did. Cool story line and great perfomances. |
3 | 20 | 37 | Det | 5-7 | Pat Beverly recently proclaimed Zubac to be one of the top 5 centers in the league. Maybe that is a stretch, but Zubac is 4th in the league in BPG and 2nd in FG%. Not too shabby. |
2 | 9 | 41 | Det | 5-3 | “The Boys are Back in Town” - Thin Lizzy- After two years out of the play-in entirely, they are sitting at the 4 spot right now and after going all in to get Brunson they are sitting in a good spot. Just needed to take a shot to get their superstar player and they’re back! |
1 | 11 | 25 | Det | 3-1 | Good week for the new-look Pistons, and the competitive Sheed is sick and tired of miring in losses. Brunson is the big dog for the Pistons now, a much different look from their rugged days as mainstays in the Eastern Conference Finals and Finals. This is a team that would hope for playoffs, but probably fights in the play in. Welcome back to competitiveness! |
