ROOKIE OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 3

PLAYERTEAMWHYSTATS

Daniss Jenkins

PER 13.54

Eastern
2-2
Jenkins went unsigned all last year, but has exploded this year in the NBA and garnered a massive bid in free agency. He's now starting for the Pistons. 40 minutes last week shows he's getting opportunity and maybe mutes the numbers a little to some, but 17 points, 3.5 rebounds, 7 assists and 1.5 steals a game from your 2way signee turned starter is going to turn heads.

Carter Bryant

PER 11.40

Eastern
2-2
Bryant isn't factoring into much just yet even with 13 minutes a game last week. He's a role player and defensive guy, so 4 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist a game is not out of the norm but also isn't going to win you an award. He shot a horrible 17% from deep and 50% from the line last week too. Maybe later in the season down the stretch.

Ryan Kalkbrenner

PER 18.93

Eastern
3-1
Kalk has been great so far as a rookie off the bench behind the big man, Duren, and there he will stay unless there's an injury. Last week though he played a few extra minutes and had a slight spike in numbers in line with that. 7.5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.5 blocks per game is stellar from a bench big, and throw in 94% from the field (which is also his season shooting), and you've got it right.

Tre Johnson

PER 16.08

Eastern
3-1
Tre is still getting time as that bench scorer for the Knicks, and is a nice part of what they are doing,. In 20 minutes last week he dropped 12 points, 2 rebounds and an assist, on volumes shooting at 37/24/83 splits. Those who like efficiency are probably going to vote for Kalk in less minutes and less miscues, but Tre's ability to score and willingness to put up shots are part of the Knicks working formula.

Sion James

PER 6.25

Eastern
4-0
Sion sparked some interest in the NBA a couple of weeks ago but has been muted as a starter since. He's still playing a large defensive role off the bench for the Bucks though at 19 minutes a game last week, but needs alot more seasoning before he's on the radar for an award. 3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2 assists a game on 36/13/100 shooting is not getting it done just yet.

Khaman Maluach

PER 18.92

Western
0-4
Maluach continues to start in Phoenix and continues to produce strong big man numbers, as you might expect. 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and 3 blocks per game last week on 82% from the field. Amazingly efficient numbers for a rookie and a real boon to the Suns franchise who wasn't expecting him to be on the board at this pick.

Egor Demin

PER 16.29

Western
1-3
Demin is on the up and up in Dallas and his size at the position is probably alot of an impact for the Mavs early season success. 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists a game last week and he's a troublesome match up to smaller guards even if he's not getting defensive numbers himself. 43/31/82 splits say he's not as good as he can be just yet, but he's had a great early going to his career.

Jeremiah Fears

PER 19.43

Western
1-3
Fears has got better each week and this past week starting saw him drop 22 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists a game with a steal on 46/36/88 shooting. He's sure to only get more efficient as the Wolves get more healthy and the defense can't collapse on him as much and he's starting to show why he was touted as a top talent in this draft, even at his young age, and a boon pick at pick 19.

Kon Knueppel

PER 16.72

Western
2-2
Kon got the start last week and proceeded to have a great week to show his talent for the future. His efficiency at the guard spot has to be noted, shooting 63/63/57 in 33 minutes averaging 15 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals a game and really fitting in and playing his role in that Memphis starting unit. It might not be what the voters target this week, but it's a great start to his starting career.

Dylan Harper

PER 29.43

Western
3-1
Harper is healthy now and last week, his debut, he came off the bench for 23 minutes a night and scored nearly a point a minute! 21 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5 assists a game showing he's NSL ready to dominate. 53/45/91 splits, too, so it wasn't volume shooting and if he keeps going at this pace he could overtake his team mate to win this award, and maybe 6th man to boot?
