I have already patted myself on the back for this, because I had the Knicks top 6 in my pre-season power rankings article. However, they are even better than I expected. Bloody hell, they have been dominant! 8-0 and they have barely broken a sweat. An average winning margin of 23+ points and running Zubac as their 6th man (that is a slap in the face to almost any other team - embarrassment of talent). Giddey has improved to be a great player, McDaniels plays his role perfectly and they even have a top 5 rookie starting.
LeBron is absolutely the engine that makes the Wizards go. Granted, I haven’t analysed their opening schedule, but seeing them sit 29th in the standings is very perplexing. They have brought back their entire team and most of the key players are playing. When Lebron returns, reality might snap back and the Wiz will go on dominating again. He is one of the greatest 2k players we have seen and will still perform at an elite level. But if the problem runs deeper, possibly regression, coaching inefficiencies, then there is plenty of work required by Joshua to get the title defence on track. To call it the ‘upside-down’ would be hyperbolic, but refreshingly, there have been some surprising wins and losses to begin the 2025-26 NSL season. Maybe there always is, particularly over the first few weeks where NBA injuries are compounded into a few weeks of NSL action. But, the parity seems to be at an all-time high, with the unrealistic consistency we have become accustomed to seeing in the NSL ratcheting down a few levels. Maybe the script is a thing of the past? Or are we just yet to notice all the 2k patterns that tend to reveal themselves as predictable as the season unfolds? As of writing this, there are multiple teams in the playoff positions that no-one would have seen as worthy. Orlando and Portland are at 4-4, both picked in the bottom five of the league. Dallas, mired in mediocrity and best known for their dynamic GMs antics, are looking strong at 7-2. Kudos all around for the strong starts. ![]() Granted, the sample is way too small. We will see what fluctuates from here on out. Downward Denver If you haven’t noticed by now, I am a fan of some snappy alliteration for a sub-heading. Despite the wild trading that we have become accustomed to in the NSL, I still had Denver pencilled in for their standard 5th-6th seeding in the West. It’s just what they do. The team has talent, depth and fit, and they have runs on the board from previous seasons. Don’t mess with a good thing, right? However, this season, they have been anything but good. They are sitting 28th on the standings, just above the Wizards. Perhaps, like Washington, it is the result of early season jitters and a tough schedule. But, also like Washington, perhaps this is a bigger problem than most might anticipate, with Denver having to really figure out how to make the team work in 25-26. Sabonis is out for weeks - an unforeseen problem. Wemby’s World Boy, that escalated quickly! Lakers world went from boom to gloom to boom in the matter of a few days, but all the while, Wemby was showing why Titles paid so much for him, and why it is widely accepted that he will be/is the next great dominant force in the NSL. I hope you are sitting down, because here is his statistical line after 8 games: 40.3 points, 17.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.5 steals, 3.1 blocks and 3.67 threes per game. ![]() That is the most obscene line I have ever seen! We are not worthy, and we are not prepared. The Lakers bet big on Wemby (easy bet) has them looking like they might just be the favourite to win the title. The Lakers have been injured and have still won 7 out of 8 games, an ominous sign for the rest of the league, and in particular the GMs who have competing title aspirations. |
