Milwaukee Bucks Season Review

Team Record: 59-23

Season Highlight:

As expected the Milwaukee Bucks were a near top of the table team for the 2024-2025 season, finishing second in the East.

Since Ethan took over the Bucks, it was expected that they would be in the conversation amongst the top teams in the league, led by their stars, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Evan Mobley.

Finishing second in their division is a great result, however how their finals series finished was a bitter way to end their sweet season.

Season Lowlight:

As mentioned above, the regular season was a success for the Bucks, but unfortunately we cant say the same for their post season.

They looked strong against he Raptors winning in a clean sweep, however the celebrations were short lived as they then had to come up against he Wizards, who they unfortunately lost to, only getting one game against them.

The East is a tough conference and if it is any consolation they did lose to the soon to be champions, so was a valiant effort. I am only saying this is a lowlight, because I am sure Ethan was disappointed and was wanting and confident he could go all the way.

Best Trade:

Bucks trade: Andrew, Wiggins, Dean Wade, Andrew Nembhard, 1st and 2nd
Bucks receive: Brandon Ingram, Kyle Anderson, JD Davidson and Bobi Klintman

This deal was done after FA as Nembhard was a sign and trade, so not sure if it can count in this years TBT, but if it doesn’t count the Bucks had no other deals besides the one mentioned below.

The Bucks gave up some solid pieces in Nembhard and Wiggins, but they got the best player in the trade being Ingram.

Ingram although has had a couple of down season, can still hold his own with the premier players in the league, and now pairing him with Shai and Mobley make a formidable big three.

Worst Trade: (drafted players updated for picks exchanged)

Bucks trade: Grayson Allen, Obi Toppin and Ryan Kalkbrenner(1st)

Bucks receive: Dean Wade, Jarace Walker, Kam Jones, Sion James(2nd) and Yanic (2nd)Konan Niederhauser.

This was a two parter, which I believe was all part of the one deal.

Jarace Walker was a lottery pick a few years ago and has lacked opportunity but still has upside and has looked good so far this season, but it seems the Bucks gave up by far the best pieces. Allen and Toppin are solid role players, and Obviously the pick wasn’t made at the time of the trade, but Kalkbrenner has looked like a solid big man and started NBA games so far.

Other Notable Trades:

There have been no other trades made by the Bucks.

Free Agency:

The Bucks got an extension for Mobley during the season and Nembhard also did which turned him into he sign and trade.

The Bucks only signed two guys in free agency, but one being one of the bigger signings of the off season.

They landed a complimentary piece in Doug McDermott and a true glitch player in Russell Westbrook, who there was definitely some competition to snap on the big day.

Westbrook is a great addition, who plays well beyond his ratings and will contribute nicely for the Bucks on a friendly deal.

Star:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

It goes without saying SGA is one of the best players in the league and he showed that his past season.

This sounds crazy to say, but statistically Shai had a down year compared to his previous one, but still put up over 37 points, almost 6 assists and over 4 rebounds along with an elite 2 steaks and 1 block. All this with great percentages.

Absolutely elite numbers, which come at no surprise to anyone. Shai is in his prime and there are no signs of him slowing down and would expect these numbers to continue.

Flop:

Playoff Run

As mentioned above, I am sure the Bucks would admit that their play run was disappointing. They were poised to go well int the post season but only managed to make it to the second round. Perhaps with some more luck and not having to face the soon to be champions they might have made it further.

Draft:

pick 36 – Yanic Konan Niederhauser C

Pick 41 – Sion James SF

Pick 46 – Kam Jones PG/SG

A good spread of positions drafted by the Bucks which will round out their team nicely.

I like the Sion James picks, he is a hard nosed, strong bodied defender who looks like he could make an impact straight away.

But with all rookies there will need to be a bit of a wait and see approach.

The Future:

The team is gearing up for another post season run and with the addition of Ingram would have their eyes set firmly on the final dance. They still have some nice young pieces developing which is always good to have in your back pocket.

C: Jakob PoeltlPF: Evan Mobley
SF: Brandon Ingram
