Face lift in Utah
With the NSL 2021 draft just around the corner, the Jazz have turned their attention to the future and have jumped into rebuild mode. It has proven a difficult task to try and rebuild from the ground up. Inheriting a team with ageing vets and a stale market for them, it was a challenge to ship out Lowry, Love and Bogdanovic. Lowry ultimately may be viewed as the trade of the year, with Detroit catapulting into title contention against the Spurs. Similarly, the Spurs also pulled off a huge trade which has consolidated their position as top dog*** (not including the injured Blazers) when they rolled the Wiz of Dame for a wannabe star in KAT, sorry Josh.
With a bunch of picks, some prospects and two building blocks in Hachimura and Vassell, Utah will be looking to capitalise on a deep draft and find some pieces that will push them into contention in the coming years. As a first time GM, its hard to gauge how the draft will go and whether to put my eggs all in the one basket. We are still recovering from dropping out of the top 3, the night terrors have stopped but to be jumped 3 times really stings.
Who knows what will happen on draft day, who knows what the 2022 Utah Jazz look like on paper but a lot of decisions need to be made and fairly quick. No one enjoys being the cellar dweller of the league. If anyone has any input on who should be picked at 6, let me know. We also are looking to ship out the pick if the price is right, so get in touch quick. The Salt Lake fans are not concerned though, they saw enough potential in young guns Poole and Davis last season to see a future for them lining up next to Rui and Devin. With Griffins $36 million coming off the books too, there will be plenty of opportunity for new free agents to come call Utah home.
Good luck to both the Spurs and the Pistons, may the best man win.
