Didn't You Used To Be An NSL Team?

And the hits (literally) just keep on coming!  Word out of Dallas is the news that recently acquired swingman Victor Oladipo will have season ending quadriceps surgery and will miss the remainder of the NSL season.  This comes as a major blow to the team that acquired the former All-Star by giving up Buddy Hield and a pick in the process.  As of now, the deal seems to be one-sided and chalked up as a major loss to general manager L J Maverick.

This week, as stated before, is a big test for the Dallas Mavericks as they are seriously undermanned for the week.  Injuries to Kristaps Porzingis, Chuma Okeke, Dennis Schroder, Cameron Johnson, Kelly Oubre among others, has decimated the squad and has forced coach Rick Carlisle to start the likes of Khem Birch and Patrick Patterson and give major minutes to the likes of Luke Kornet.  The team is barely hanging on to the 5th seed in the NSL Western Conference by sheer luck at this point.  With all the injuries coupled with the news of Oladipo, the future (as well as this season) does not bode well for the organization.  There will be many questions left unanswered and many holes to fill once this season closes shop.  With the likes of Oladipo, Schroder, Oubre and some ancillary bench folk being unrestricted free agents, the cap-strapped Mavericks will be lucky to retain one and be a player in this off-season's free agency period.

In lighter news, Kevin Durant has been on an MVP-like tear in recent weeks.  He has kept the team afloat along with the great play of Fred VanVleet.  With any luck, the team will limp into the playoffs as maybe the eighth seed and fall to the dominant Blazers or Spurs in the first round.  We can only hope at this time.  Light you candles, please.  It's going to be an obscure ride.
