You're Back! Oh, Now You're Gone..
If it was not for bad luck, I do not believe the Dallas Mavericks would have any luck at ll. As the return of all-world forward Kevin Durant looms, the team has been nicked up quite a bit lately. The team has struggled to say the least in recent weeks and especially for the last four weeks without Durant. They have scrapped wins here and there; but, with the losses mounting to the lesser teams in the NSL, the Mavericks general manager, LJ Maverick, and the team as a whole seems despondent lately.
The fact that the team sits closer to being out of the playoffs than where many thought they would be perched closer to the top echelon of teams is in which LJ Maverick really struggles. The talent is there. The enthusiasm is there. But, the cap iss is there as well. With the team playing under expectations and having such a precarious cap issue, it is no wonder LJ Maverick has been burning the phones to cut salary. Once thought unbelievable, the notion has become a reality that one of more of the team's core players could be moved just for the sake of staying under the luxury tax.
The usual suspects have been shopped around as of late. While the names as Dennis Schroder, Buddy Hield and Patrick Patterson have been mentioned as the most likely to move, the team has gone on record that they are not willing to move youngsters Chuma Okeke, Kelly Oubre nor Cameron Johnson in any deal at the time. The trio has been playing major minutes while the team has been on the mend, and Okeke received a major boost (ratings-wise) this past week.
We are not thoroughly sure what exactly LJ Maverick will decide on doing before the trade deadline, but it should be interesting. If all goes well, the team will have a decent return while saving some money in the process.
