Are We Done Yet?

The Dallas Mavericks have had a turbulent (read: OK) season so far in the iteration that is the NSL.  A month without a superstar player in your line-up will do that.  Still, the team, the players, the organization and its fans have been patient.  Patiently waiting a healthy, full squad to make a mark in the playoffs.

The absence of Kevin Durant for a month has been taxing on GM LJ Maverick especially.  With his trying to shuffle players for Coach Rick Carlisle to trying to find cap relief by trading key pieces of the team, the general manager has been at his wits end for most of the season.  Still, what may be an intriguing season is still very young and far from over.  Coach Carlisle has been tinkering with a "small ball" line-up as of late but has come across issues as he's tinkering against some of the elite squads in the NSL.  Suffice to say, it's not working very well.  Youngsters such as Kelly Oubre, Cameron Johnson and Chuma Okeke have been receiving starters minutes and have shown the organization that its future is in good hands.  On-the-cusp-of-being-an-allstar Fred VanVleet has been playing lights out as of the last month with Durant out of the lineup.

Word on the NSL water coolers has LJ Maverick still shopping utility guard Dennis Schroder and marksman Buddy Hield in an attempt to keep the main core together but get some cap relief.  There has been some preliminary talks with about five teams, but nothing has come to fruition as of today.  We will keep you posted.

The team, although decimated and crippled by one major superstar being injured has it sights set on the NSL playoffs.  The ironic part is that the lower the team gets seed-wise, the more fear should come to those at higher seeding once the team is at full strength this NSL playoff season.  This squad is ready to leave its mark, to say the least.
