Not Again......

The week that is upon us is the same week the Dallas Mavericks have feared since triggering a deal that brought MVP candidate Kevin Durant back to the state of Texas.  With Durant back out again for the week, the aforementioned Mavericks are now dealing with having another of their key starters out with injury.  Kristaps Porzingis, widely known to be a major Robin to Durant's Batman, will be out for the week as well with a lingering injury.  The week now brings us to showcase how vulnerable the Mavericks are with no depth and no major players to come in and fill the holes left by the two superstars.  A week very easily summarized to be an "0 for" will undoubtedly knock the playoff-hopeful Maverick further down the food chain out in the Western Conference.

The loss of Porzingis and Durant makes the Mavericks an also-ran in the playoff hunt.  The lack of cap space and depth have showcased general manager LJ Maverick ideas to maybe try to get some cap relief and attain assets.  With the likes of the Spurs and Blazers out ahead, the likelihood of the Mavericks making a solid run to the NSL FInals dwindles daily barring a major injury to one of those two teams' star players.

The week will have to bring out the very best play from starting point guard Fred VanVleet and more so from youngsters such as Buddy Hield, Cameron Johnson and Kelly Oubre.  Still, this will be an uphill climb to say the least even with these players playing at levels never asked of from the team and coach Carlisle.  The bench play, as it remains, will be the achilles heel for the team without a doubt.  Other than a rising rookie in Chuma Okeke and trade fodder Dennis Schroder, the roleplayers leftover leave much to be desired.  Let's just all hope for the best and see if the team can pull at least one out this week.
