Are We Ready?
The ups and downs of this iteration of the NBA, the NSL, has been a roller coaster ride for the Dallas Mavericks, to say the least. The have managed win streaks and losing streaks fairly commonly this season. Without a deep, talented bench depth, they will definitely struggle if one or more of the team's main starters goes down with injury. The season has already taken its toll on the likes of Kevin Durant to the sum of eight games thus far in the young season.
The losses have accumulated this season with Durant in the line-up. Coach Rick Carlisle has had to tinker with being inventive with his pairings and playbook. A loss that significant would merit nothing less. But, having Durant out has brought some significant minute play for the likes of Cameron Johnson and has brought Kelly Oubre back to the starting line-up. Oubre has been playing nice as of late and should hopefully regain his play of last season where he was an intrical part of the Orlando Magic. Johnson, the second year wing from North Carolina, has also shown signs that he can be a major role player for this playoff contender.
As the season plays forward, news has come out that General Manager LJ Maverick has been tinkering with the idea of possibly re-homing star big man Kristaps Porzingas. While these are rumors, only feelers have been brought forward. There is nothing concrete to the rumor. The thought is that the big man may bring back several similar caliber players, assets, cash or a mixture of each. The cap-strapped Mavericks could use some relief in that category to say the least. But, are they willing to mortgage the season? Apparently not. They still want to contend. They are of mindset that winning breeds a winning culture that will entice free agents to come to Dallas and their own players to want to stay. I guess time will tell.
