It's Been One Week Since.....
The first week of the season has come and gone for the NSL version of the Dallas Mavericks. We have some highs and low. And, albeit a winning record for the week, the team has announced that all-world forward Kevin Durant will be taking some time off to rest the achilles injury he suffered eighteen months ago.
The loss of Durant comes at a pivotal time for the squad and the organization as a whole in terms of finding their footing ion the league. A dominating week for Durant, solidified what many in the NSL thought - that Durant would be a force to be reckoned with this season. The silver lining, if there can be such a thing, comes with the knowledge this is the team's and Durant's decision. There is a timetable involved. He will be back the week after this coming week.
The loss of Durant for the week means Cameron Johnson will be thrust into the starting line-up at the small forward position, sending Kelly Oubre to the bench while Kristaps Porzingas fills in the void left by Durant. Porzingas is no stranger to the power forward position by no means. He has thrived at the position in the past, garnering all-star and MVP recognition.

Talk around the proverbial water cooler is that the team is still looking to get closer under the hard cap sooner than later. They have come out publicly to say that Patrick Patterson is on the trade block along with Luke Kornet. The team, still looking for a trade partner for either Dennis Schroder or Fred VanVleet, has made it known they are open to any talks surrounding players that make viable sense to the team including future assets. We hear that this is not a fire sale so-to-speak but a means to an end for luxury cap purposes. One or two of the core group may be dressing for another squad fairly soon.
