Anthony Freaking Davis
Anthony Davis, also know as AD, The Brow, Street Clothes, Antony Day to Davis, is now a part of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The prospect of adding Anthony Davis to the Timberwolves came about this off-season when new-comer Gm Jonathon, added Anthony Davis to his trade block. Gm Ethan had long discourse with Gm Jonathon about Anthony Davis, but ultimately fell short initially, with Chicago going the way of another offer in principle, which in the end fell through, to the fortunes of the Timberwolves. Upon hearing that the deal had fallen through, we swiftly acted to put forward the best offer we could to secure AD for the for 23-24 season and to pair him with Jimmy Butler.
The Deal:
After going back and forth multiple times on what both sides thought was fair value, we landed on the below.
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive:
Anthony Davis & Bryce McGowens
Chicago Bulls Receive:
LaMelo Ball, Mikal Bridges and Pick 26 (James Nnaji)
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive:
Scottie Barnes
There was likely more compensation between the Bulls and Cavs however, the offer from Minnesota was LaMelo, Scottie and 26 for the AD and McGowens, but Scottie was re-routed to Cleveland.
It was a big offer and honestly it was a little more than we wanted to part with, but GM Ethan ultimately decided, if we are to be a genuine title threat we need another star player, which we landed in Anthony Davis. AD finished top 3 in MVP and DPOY in the NSL last season, as well as receiving All Defence and All NSL honours.
What Next?
Gm Ethan looks toward FA with roughly 27 million in cap space, and the room MLE of about 7 million to work with. It's safe to say that we are up against it with only 3-4 players on our roster who can handle a rotation spot as it stands right now. This coming Free Agency is going to be huge for the Timberwolves, but with a good record, a couple of second round picks to sell on the day and likely 150 gm points before FA day, the Timberwolves will look to add great veteran, rotational depth to the roster that compliments their two stars and Jonas Valanciunas.
Closing Thoughts:
At the end of the day, there isn't many GMs in the NSL that would have the guts and the ball to make a move like this, this was evident when consulting other GMs on their thoughts throughout the process. However, as the past 4 NSL champion teams have showed us, you need to have AT LEAST one mid 90's player/superstar on your roster if not 2, to have a genuine chance at winning the title. The price was hefty, we sent out the key cog to our rebuild LaMelo Ball and our #1 boy Scottie Barnes to get it done, something most GMs couldn't do, but as of today, the Timberwolves are a genuine title threat and have nothing to lose by absolutely going for it this year.
There's still a chance that AD and Jimmy may not start on the Timberwolves roster though, as there has been many trade offers come through the door, but nothing has struck the chord of GM Ethan just yet.
