Haywood Highsmith

We want to tell you something about Haywood Highsmith. GM MaiLo has a special connection to him as he spend some time playing in Germany and MaiLo was in the crowds several times.

He came to the NSL as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Born on June 3, 1996, in Baltimore, Maryland, Highsmith attended Wheeling Jesuit University, a Division II school, where he showcased his basketball talents. Standing at 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 meters) and weighing around 220 pounds (100 kilograms), Highsmith primarily plays as a forward.

After going undrafted, Highsmith joined the Delaware Blue Coats, the G League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers. His impressive performances in the G League caught the attention of the NSL Milwaukee Bucks, who signed him 2018. This allowed Highsmith to get his first contact with the NSL.

After this time, Highsmith signed with the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, a professional basketball team in the German Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). He joined the Merlins for the 2020-2021 season.

During his stint with the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, Highsmith contributed significantly to the team's success. He showcased his skills as a versatile forward, displaying scoring ability, rebounding prowess, and defensive intensity. Highsmith's athleticism and work ethic made him a valuable asset for the team.

Highsmith's time in Germany allowed him to gain further experience and continue to develop his game. Playing in a competitive European league like the BBL provided him with valuable opportunities to refine his skills and adapt to different styles of play.

While specific statistics and achievements from Highsmith's time in Germany may vary, his presence in the BBL showcased his talent and potential as a professional basketball player. It served as a stepping stone in his career, allowing him to continue his journey in the world of basketball.

He then came back 2022 to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They traded him in the Rudy Gobert trade to the Philadelphia 76er, who send him to MaiLo and the Orlando Magic some days later.

As of now his contract is still not guaranteed for next season, but in July we will see what happens. We hope he can stay and develop with the Magic as he is still an interesting young forward player.
