Are The Rumors True?
The time is nearing in Dallas for the departure of Kristaps Porzingis to an in-division rival, but the rumors are growing oh so slightly on the possible departure of Kevin Durant.
Yes, that is correct. General manager LJ Maverick has had his phone blowing up with inquiries for the all-world big man whom is one of the best players in the league today. Last time we discussed this, the general manager vehemently suggested that it would take any team's best "and then some". Well, other general managers read and complied. The talks are ongoing with three teams that have exactly what general manger LJ Maverick needs in return. There are two teams from the West and one team from the East (with a second ECF as a dark horse) bringing the total to a possible four-team race for Durant's services.
All the while, the team has been in talks for smaller players including the likes of Chuma Okeke. The team as it stands will not make the playoffs this year and is starting to look at the future. One bright note is that Victor Oladipo is set to return any day now which will undoubtedly garner attention from NSL contenders this season. Oladipo's playmaking ability and his amazing defense will be the selling points for the Mavericks as they try to shore up for the future. Could Dipo land with a contender to bolster a team's roster come playoffs? Of course!
The Mavericks once had a great window for playoff pushes and talks of contending for titles, but the Western Conference in the NSL is full of behemoths in title contenders. These moves "make sense" in the most absolute way! The team with trading Porzingis and possibly trading Durant and Oladipo will most certainly look quite differently as soon as a couple of weeks. Will this be fun for the Mavericks faithful? Maybe. Will it be a course change to right the ship? Absolutely!
