No Time For Quitting
Abysmal is too kind of a word when discussing the NSL iteration of the Dallas Mavericks, those woeful Mavericks, led by general manager LJ Maverick. Well, hardly led is the appropriate term. The team has quickly become the laughing stock of the league, and it comes at an amazing surprise to none that it is so. What once was touted as a major contender for the Western Conference crown for the last two seasons, now has the opportunity to miss the NSL playoffs altogether. What a joke! Right? Let's delve into some issues, shall we?
First, and appropriately, is the concern over two major obstacles: the roster as in consists of lack of depth, and, secondly, injuries to said roster. While no one can realistically have an impact on fixing the latter, we can see what needs to be done to overhaul the former.
The team has begrudgingly started a league-wide conversation discussing plans to trade thei second-best player arguably in Kristaps Porzingis. The "Unicorn", in many ways, has lived up to his moniker in sheer amazement in that he is a 7'3" point forward essentially that can drain a three pointer at any given time and head back on defense to make a spectacular block on any one of the opposing team's players within the same exchange of possession. This, as a matter of fact, is what draws teams to want to trade for him. While it's been stated that LJ Maverick will not settle for any low-ball deal, he would be happy in not trading away such a valuable asset and rebuild next offseason instead. He is crafty in such ways where not having his first round pick will not matter in the slightest as next year's draft class seems to be a lower quality class in comparison to some recent classes according to most experts.
But, then again, who really knows? Until next time.
