I Used To Be A Contender....
In the wake of nothingness we have the sublime indignation that is the NSL season for the Dallas Mavericks basketball team. To say they have had a rough start would be more than an understatement. The goal, record notwithstanding, is still to make the playoffs this season - a far-fetched goal in many eyes.
The projection for the squad at the start of the season was one of position jockeying, not fearing missing the playoffs altogether. Talks were happening around the league along with general manager LJ Maverick as to which vital piece would go next after trading away fan favorite Fred VanVleet. The general talk around the clubhouse is to part ways with starting bigman Kristaps Porzingis. Talks have cooled down a tad with his vital play the last few weeks. Still, the sentiment in Dallas is to benefit more than lose when it comes to any deals. The future, while important, should not hinder the team from getting players to surround all-world Kevin Durant. Durant is here to stay until he retires, and he needs help ensuring the team adds at least one more trophy to its case.
Rumors have the return of swingman/point man Victor Oladipo in the coming weeks barring any small setbacks. His presence should open up many opportunities for the team once he gets back into the swing of things. At the very least, the team can gauge the interest in Porzingis that much easier. The return of Oladipo would surely add to an abysmal offense which ranks close to the bottom in almost every major category in the NSL. Oladipo is slated to take over the starting point guard position while sliding Patty Mills back to his more natural sixth man role. No other changes to the starting lineup have been tinkered with as far as personnel is concerned.
