Unicorns Come And Go....

Another week, another no-win streak  The faithful in Dallas are at a loss for words after the team has inexplicably started the new NSL campaign without a win.  Yes, the heavily-favored playoff team to reach the playoffs this year is sans win.  What can be the issue?  Team chemistry?  Injuries?  The general manager?  All?  We may have the insight on the possible answer.

"It starts with the top."  There is no denying the sentiment as it pertains to almost every debacle in modern history.  Owner Mark Cuban and general manager LJ Maverick are the culprits here.  One cannot field a decent team and the former will not part ways with the latter.  So, where do we go from here?

Well, then we look into roster changes, the chemistry talked about earlier.  Rumors out of Dallas is that LJ Maverick has been on the phones with several Eastern Conference clubs about the possible trade of Kristaps Porzingis.  While in the past this would have been a ludicrous proposition, the idea of getting immediate help and help for the future (which happens to be the asking price for the Unicorn), seem to be the logical outcome nowadays in Dallas.

In a perfect world, Porzingis would have a life home in Dallas, but with zero chance Kevin Durant gets traded, he is the only viable piece Dallas has to make this team a contender again.  As of today, Dallas is in serious talks with three Eastern Conference and one Western Conference teams.  Again, the thought process is to have him back in the Eastern Conference where Dallas would not have to worry about seeing him but twice a year.  Will the trade come to fruition?  Who know?  The likelihood of the returns of Victor Oladipo and Wayne Ellington sooner than later makes the decision that much more difficult for the general manager.  In the end, this may just be much ado about nothing.
