As The Cowboy Rides Away
Well, the time has come and gone. Another season has come to an end for the malingered general manager for the Dallas Mavericks, L J Maverick. It was just another typical ending for the same-named maverick of the league. He has a reputation of fading out of every playoff series he has every taken part of since he has joined the league we should not mention.
Although, this season was a little different. The major trade that brought in Kevin Durant to the organization was pivotal for the future of the team but also was the catalyst to the end of the season, the proverbial "white flag". Bringing in the likes of Durant and Kelly Oubre and a first round pick was thought of as a nice haul for the organization. Next season should be an exciting time for the organization to be certain. The thought of a frontline of Kristaps Porzingis, Kevin Durant and Kelly Oubre paired with Fred VanVleet (assuming he is retained) and Dennis Schoder and next year rookie Chuma Okeke are very good indicators of a fruitful future for the team as of next season.
The season recently came to an end this week as the Mavericks lost to the Trail Blazers in six games. They were overpowered and over-matched from the get go. Remember, this was a team that limped in to the playoffs and had no shot going up against such a behemoth of a squad in Portland. The team eeked out two lucky wins on nights where Portland was not prepared. The team, led by Porzingis, showed great signs of a chemistry that had been left with more to be desired.
Moving forward, the Dallas Mavericks have virtually placed themselves at least in the way-to-early talks for next season's NSL playoffs. Dallas, as a whole, has been without any semblance of a championship-caliber team since 2011. They are long overdue.
