Grizzlies First News Ever
e Grizzlies find themselves winning just over half their games to start the season, with one game left to play to finish off the week against a powerful Nuggets team looking to add another W, the expectation is that they will end the week at 0.500. After last week’s effort against the Nuggets and Curry, the injury to Tyler Herro this week, and the existing injuries to JJJ and Derrick White, the chances of landing a win are bleak. While the team is disappointed in not achieving the perfect season, they still find themselves in the playoff hunt, sitting at 7th at the time of writing. This is enough.
But GM Rootsey is an impatient man, and he is constantly
reaching out to GMs to try and consolidate some of his assets to add another piece
to the roster. While the consolidation has not come yet, the team is in an
excellent position to make a deal. Last week they moved Jake Layman for a 2025
2nd to the Spurs who were struggling with roster depth, and this
week they moved fan favourite Kyle Anderson for potential and a pick. The
potential of course is Eric Paschall.
Now its no secret that the Grizz intend to have a defence
first mentality, and that might be the reason that Paschall gets moved sooner
rather than later. He is a solid scorer with 16 badges that help an inside/outside
offensive game. Fleixble release, hot zone hunter, putback boss, contact
finisher, difficult shots and pro touch are all in his arsenal, he carries an
81 overall rating at the small forward position and is only 24 years old for a
few more months. Maybe a player with 87 vet and 95 hustle to make up for his
height of 6’6’ is the piece that the Grizz are missing to step into the
starting small forward position but the perimeter defensive rating of 65 isn’t
cutting the mustard.
The Grizzlies have $23M in capspace, eight 1st
round picks, twelve 2nd round picks, and a few non-core guys that
can be put together to create something bigger than it is right now. At the end
of the season will we see Darius Bazely, Aron Baynes, DeMarcus Cousins, Derrick
Favors, Matisse Thybulle, OG Anuoby, or Eric Paschall wearing a different
uniform? I’d bet on yes for many of them, which ones and where, no clue.
