Core News
The Core….
Part of the world of building a team from scratch is
identifying the core group of players that will make up the foundation of the
roster for the future, starting the season at 5-8 isn’t great but we have to
acknowledge that was accomplished without the team’s star Paolo Banchero
Point Guard
Cason Wallace, Jordan Poole, Nick Smith Jr
Cason is developing into a nice option as a starting point
guard and could develop into one of the better perimeter defenders at the point
guard position in the league, Jordan Poole does Jordan Poole things as a 6man
spark plug.
Nick Smith has potential and was at one point during his
freshman year in college a highly touted draft prospect unfortunately injuries
have delayed his development.
Room for improvement via trade ? probably yes or do we wait to see if Cason
develops into the teams point guard?
Shooting Guard
Jalen Williams, Jordan Hawkins, Kobe Bufkin, AJ Johnson
Jalen “J-Dub” Williams has the starting shooting guard position
locked up with Jordan Hawkins developing quite nicely behind him as a flame
throwing scorer. Kobe Bufkin like nick smith Jr had injury concerns since being
drafted in the lottery in a recent draft and has some work to do. But has also
shown flashes of being a regular contributor
AJ Johnson touted as the biggest reach of the draft by the
NBA Bucks causing a NSL draft day fall from NBA 23rd to NSL 37th
it was exciting to see AJ showing during pre-season he belongs on an NBA roster
Small Forward
Small forward position is in a decent spot, Veteran presence
in Tobias Haris who seems to have been given an ever so slight 2k boost up and
coming shooter Trey Murphy 3 and D guys in Kris Murray and Ron Holland the latter
and most recent draft pick being the player we hope to one day take the mantle of
starter.
Do we neen an upgrade at SF? Probably not
Power Forward
The most locked down position on
the roster featuring albeit injured 1st round pick Paolo Banchero
who recently broke the 90 rating on 2k ably backed up by the single most trade
requested player on the Clippers roster in Tari Eason and Twin Brother of Keegan
Murray, Kris Murray who looks like the prototypical 3&D
Do we need an upgrade at PF, easy
no here Paolo is the future of the franchise with Tari quite capable of starting
or coming of the bench
Centre
Moritz Wagner and Noah Clowney make up the entirety of the Clipper
centre depth chart if not including 2 way players. Mo was a welcome addition to
the team through free agency and while he may not be a the future he is a solid
addition with Noah Clowney an upcoming stretch 4/5.
this is one area that need attention as soon as possible
All in all, considering the clippers were tipped to be a
worse team in 2024/25 we are privately happy with our progression internally.
Paolo having broken the 90 rating barrier and Jalen hot on his heels at 88 can
only lead to a brighter future in Tinseltown
