Active as FA approaches

The Spurs will be super active as the Free Agency date approaches in early November.

The Spurs will be hustling in every aspect of NSL, chasing trades, creating content and looking for the right signings as the build for the 2022-23 season continues. Spurs management expect to head into November with the full 150gm point cap, as a number of goals need to be achieved to turn this roster from being good to potentially great.

The first goal of the offseason was to turn an aging roster into a young and exciting one. Then the goals changed and Giannis was brought to town! Once the superstar was signed, front office began a shuffle of pieces to turn the rebuild back to contention.

Lebron James will be on the out in week 12 which will open a significant amount of cap room (approx $10 mil) and also bring star guard James Harden. With Harden running the point, the Spurs should have a handy 1-2 punch with Giannis pounding inside and the beard distributing and gunning from outside. But what will be put around the duo to enhance their ceiling?

In (so far)- Jae Crowder & Justise Winslow.

With Harden/Giannis locking down the PG/PF the wings were identified as an 'area of need' to cement and protect. Jerami Grant can work both ends and is an asset on the defensive end but the SG/SF position looked a bit shallow without a go-to star.

Justise Winslow was brought in for a second rounder in a deal with the Raptors. Winslow looks ready for plenty of minutes in NBA Portland and should be able to cement a good enough role to give him a plus rating as a defender distributor in NSL land. His passing ability will be valuable at SG/SF, while his ability to stop the go-to guards will see him in the rotation from game 1.

Crowder will likely be the starting SG unless trade or massive FA upset leads to a high quality signing. Once Harden starts at Point, the plan looks to be to surround him with size and strength to create a fortress on the wings with a size advantage at guard and superstar advantage at PF in Giannis. The depth at the SF position looks pretty set as the Spurs head into Free Agency.

Wing Rotation:
SG- Crowder SF- Jerami Grant
Bench Wings- Justise Winslow, Justin Holiday and Keita Bates-Diop

The key target in Free Agency will be to retain Dwane Dedmon and find a star guard to relieve the burden from projected starter Frank Ntilika.. That's right, the Spurs currently have no other point guard eligible players. Oh boy.

After retaining and finding a quality guard, the roster should start to take shape and the ceiling will be based on how good Giannis will be in the upcoming engine.
