Seeing Red: Blazers trade for Reddish

Late on Thursday evening, official word came through about a completed deal between the Portland Trailblazers and the Phoenix Suns.

Rumours had been swirling recently about talks between the two organisations, but thus far, that was all it was; no deals had been agreed upon, up until now.

The deal featured Cam Reddish, the highly touted wing from the 2019 draft, who is yet to really have a moment of growth to validate the hype that he has received, and still maintains. Just turned 23, Reddish has incredible physical tools, two-way potential, but a long way to go to realise, maximise his gifts and skills. His 2k trait profile is belied by his minor reputation and overall rating, littered with great physical, defensive and offensive tools.

The official deal is as follows: Cam Reddish is traded to the Portland Trailblazers for the Atlanta Hawks 2023 first round pick, Cleveland Cavaliers 2027 second round pick and young big man Marko Simonovic.

Reddish is a signal from Portland that they are ready to spend precious draft capital to equip the roster with players who can play winning, impactful basketball. As it stands, he looks to be the first wing off the bench, with Durant, Covington, Richardson and eventually, Lebron James, to be manning positions one-through-four.

The price was reasonable, if not decent value for the Phoenix Suns, who welcomed the pick assets and the loss of talent on their roster.  The Hawks 2023 pick should be in the teens, and the 2027 2nd round pick is something to bank away in the portfolio. The Suns are focused on only one thing this season: developing talent that has a long way to go and trying hard for honourable wins. As the Suns GM was quoted: this year is a great year to be bad at winning basketball games.
