NSL Insider - Team by Team: Toronto Raptorsby Shams, updated on Sunday, November 03 2024, 05:53 pm EST Record- 45-37 Season Highlight: Beating out the Pacers for the 6th seed, everyone loves to see the team that is always talking smack to lose. Yeet thought he’d take over the 6th seed when Toronto had the Randle injury, but Dylan’s team didn’t hold up at all. Dylan said himself, “never tickle a sleeping dragon,” whatever that means it sounds menacing. Season Lowlight: Losing in the 1st round of playoffs 2-4, they had a great push at the end of the season, but ended up not making it past the 76ers. The team as young as they were very went above and beyond, but you still want to see the team do well and have an upset win if possible. The team looks to come back this next year even better, with the roster already being kind of overhauled. Star: Chet Holmgren- He won many rookie of the weeks, had a Eastern Conference player of the week once as well as making it to the All Star team. He would have won ROTY in really any other rookie class besides this one since Wemby was just that amazing. Flop: Pascal Siakam- Siakam was a little bit of a flop just as he doesn’t perform in 2k as he does in the NBA. He didn’t massively flop, and he wasn’t on the team a ton of time either so didn’t get to make a big impact. Best Trade: The Raptors send Delon Wright, Dorian Finney-Smith, Zion Williamson, Josh Green, 2024 Jazz 1st, and 2025 76ers 1st and receive Tobias Harris, Spencer Dinwiddie, Chet Holmgren, Keegan Murray, 2024 Thunder 1st, 2025 Lakers 1st, and 2 2nds. I always loved this trade for the Raptors as Chet and Keegan were both top draft picks and, Zion is an amazing player, but the future of the team is brighter cause of this trade. Worst Trade: Raptors send Alex Caruso and receive Tyus Jones. Caruso is on one of the best contracts and Tyus Jones is a good player, but I see him as a tier below Caruso with role players. Was likely a trade made because of positions as I know Jones is PG eligible, but don’t think Caruso is. Other Notable Trades: Raptors send Pascal Siakam, Keegan Murray, Ayo Dosunmu, and Boban Marjanovic and receive Josh Giddey, Julius Randle, Wendell Carter Jr The Raptors furthered their depth, getting 3 starter level players and giving up 2, Keegan is the best prospect among these, Randle is around the same level as Siakam though. Raptors send Tobias Harris, 2025 Lakers 1st and 2026 Lakers 1st for Rudy Gobert and a 2nd. The effect that Gobert has in 2k warrants this return in my opinion, don’t really think anyone in particular won on value, but the future of the Lakers can sway the deal the opposite way as they’re getting younger with the recent trade. Raptors send Dejounte Murray, Deandre Ayton, and 2024 Grizzlies 1st for Devin Vassell, Amen Thompson, and 3 1sts. The Grizzlies 1st ended up better than expected, and the main thing with the Raptors was they got younger. Amen we just saw go out for KD as well, so having him come in amounted to getting a superstar. Raptors send Rudy Gobert for Pascal Siakam. More so a positional trade to me, Siakam can play the PF while Gobert can’t. Makes sense in that case, Gobert better in 2k, but also his production is more easily accessible with the typical centers. Raptors send D’Angelo Russell and 2024 Thunder 1st for Brandon Clarke and 2024 Raptors 1st. Just had to wait a little longer for Clarke to come back from injury, moved up slightly with the pick swap, and got decent production from BC. Raptors send Dillon Brooks, 2024 Raptors 1st and 2 2nds for Aaron Gordon. AG is a better player than Brooks, got a slight upgrade, just not sure how much the upgrade is worth, was a mid 1st in what many consider a bad draft though. Free Agency: Kornet the only FA on roster, should be a big day for them as they need to fill in the roster with role players and look to have a full MLE to use. It looks like the Raptors are all in with the acquisitions of Kawhi and KD. Draft Grades: Baylor Scheierman- I like this pick at 39, he’s a skilled player and being older was his biggest downfall, but he could carve out a role in Boston at some point and makes sense to take a flier on him. A- The Future: PF: Kevin Durant/EJ Liddell SF: Kawhi Leonard/Baylor Scheierman SG: Luguentz Dort PG: Dennis Schroder/Davion Mitchell It looks bright with the starting lineup, but Dylan has a big task at hand in filling in the rest of the roster. The starting lineup is amazing, but Kawhi will be out a while and the rest of the roster is young so you don’t really want them to be playing a ton of minutes right now. |
