A Precarious Start
Not too bad of a week for the new look NSL Dallas Mavericks, not bad at all. A couple of wins for new faces at a new place will always help build that much needed chemistry. Brandon Ingram playing alongside his former and now new teammate Julius Randle felt seamless for the squad. Jalen Brunson played scrappy basketball which was lacking for the Mavericks these past few seasons. All in all, the team looks like it will mesh very well. Anchored by Randle and Bobby Portis, the frontcourt looks as formidable as ever. They will never be the defensive juggernaut, but they team hopes the tandem along with Ingram will anchor a commendable effort night in and night out.
Speaking of Brandon Ingram, news has the young soon-to-be-star missing the week due to ailments. It will be a tougher go for the squad, but coach Jason Kidd will be going with JaeSean Tate as his replacement on the starting squad. The injury also enables the team to have a better look at rooie Jaden Springer as he will be receiving some important minutes this week. Springer has shown inklings of genius play but he has not factored much this year minutes-wise.
Looking at the future for the lottery-bound squad (their pick is owned by Atlanta), the team is scouting heavily the late first round for what they hope will be a gem-in-hiding as they own the Chicago Bulls first round pick. While the draft this season is top-heavy, there are some prospects that have caught the eye of the scouting team. Most likely with the team dead set on bringing back Brunson and Portis, they will be looking for a swingman or defensive big in the draft. If all else fails, the team is content on drafting the best available talent left on the board at the time. There is no talk of the team trying to move up in the draft, so trades will be scarce on the front.
