The Final Cut
The trade deadline brings upon the NSL a sense of continuity, calm and soberness that isnt present for the rest of the season. With front offices and teams only able to look within for change, it could be suggested that teams learn more about themselves over these final five weeks of the regular season than the previous fifteen weeks. With no ability to make changes to personnel, if you cant grow your strategy or talent, then you are going to be surpassed.
Portland has made its final moves, and this is the squad.
If the team is to get back to the place where the GM and players feel they belong, it will come through the dedication, sacrifice, concentration, and collaboration of these few people.
There is a lot of anticipation for this weeks Portland lineup. Kevin Durant, acquired three weeks ago for Kawhi Leonard, Bobby Portis and picks, will play in red, black and white for the first time. Durant, one of the greatest scorers to ever play basketball, has hopefully found a home in Portland.
Hassan Whiteside, who was acquired in a deadline deal for two first round picks, has a chance to lock down the starting centre spot and be the bruiser and rim protector the team has missed. Will he be worth the exorbitant price the front office paid for him?
In a panic pivot, when feeling they lacked size, the Blazers had to pay overs to move Lou Williams and bring in Josh Jackson from the Hawks. Jackson, with great physical traits, hasn�t proved he belongs in the league yet. Will he play a role in Portland or were the picks sent out for him effectively thrown out?
In a fantastic surprise and nice twist of fate, free agent Tomas Satoransky chose Portland as his new team. Portland apparently moved Lou Williams because of his lack of size, and the day after, they add a smart, tall point guard.
