What Is This?
What is This? What is this?! Can it be? A start of a new NSL season! Yes! All happy with glee! But, are we all? Did we not just see a crud show of a start to the season for the Dallas Mavericks, its fanbase and general manager LJ Maverick?!?! What is this? An 0-4 start with an all-pro superstar player in Kevin Durant? This cannot be! What is this? Not the start we had all hoped for in Dallas, to say the least. Kristaps Porzingis starting slow, the trade of Fred VanVleet and, of course, INJURIES have played a major factor.
The main culprit is not a surprise. Victor Oladipo is still nursing a quad. The projected starting point guard and the medical staff are confident he will see playing time by late December or early January. Fingers crossed, ya? Oladipo has been a mainstay on the IR for several years in his fairly short NSL career. Devastating as some of his injuries have been, Oladipo still ranks among the most electrifying players in the league. Was he worth VanVleet to retain him? We will have to see.
The season, as stated before, did not start off particularly well for the Mavericks. After beating the champion Spurs twice in a row, they were told due to technical difficulties, they had to replay the game. Of course, they lose the one that stuck! But, that's the way the ball rolls sometimes. They lost three more games to two more divisional foes and up and coming Minnesota. What is this? Yes, you heard that right again! They are 0-4! And, the amazing part is that they have an almost indubious schedule of games coming again this week, and....wait for it... BOOM! More injuries! The people and fans in Dallas including myself do not know whether to laugh of cry at this point. Wish them luck!
