Where Do We Go From Here?

With the season coming to an end, there are more unanswered questions than there are fans still reeling from an uninteresting second round exit for the Dallas Mavericks at the hands of the Portland Trailblazers.  The season as a whole was a success in some eyes as the team found a spot in the top 4 in the rugged NSL Western Conference while mired in injuries all season.

The first round brought a glimpse of what the team could have been as they dispatched the Los Angeles Clippers 4-1 to set the match with the Trailblazers.  As a whole, the team managed a respectable final record and maybe had loftier dreams of an end game.  The likes of Kevin Durant, Kristaps Porzingis, Fred VanVleet, Kelly Oubre, Dennis Schroder and youngsters Cameron Johnson and Chuma Okeke brought a gritty attitude to the city of Dallas not seen since the early-to-mid 1980's and again in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s.

The focal point this offseason is to see who stays and who leaves in free agency.  The likes of Schroder and Oubre may have played themselves into a contract too large for the team while Victor Oladipo who was injured after the team acquired him has already signed a one-year contract to most likely stay with the team for next season which would make letting one of the aforementioned two test the free agency waters.

The team has been rumored to be dangling Porzingis in trade talks and some interest has been reported.  The team will most likely require some cap flexibility, younger players and/or picks and other assets in return for the big man aptly monikered, "The Unicorn".  While the urgency is surely not there, the team would love to get under the luxury cap for next season, and shedding Porzingis' contract would surely help in the aspect.
