We're Going Drafting
The Thunder have been a relatively flurry of activity lately with 2 trades agreed to in July and potentially another one in the works. Now that the lotto has been settled they've had a bit of an eye on some prospects in the upcoming NSL draft and despite the weak draft proclamations, they are trying to hit a home run.
In the most recent deal, the Thunder sent out a top 5 protected first for next year (hopefully the record won't be so bad that the protection is relevant) along with Cam Reddish (last year's 8th pick) in exchange for the 4th pick in the upcoming draft. Some have already questioned trading the 8th selection in a strong draft after he had a strong 2nd half of the season along with a 1st in order to get the 4th pick. However the team feels like there are 4 guys that all have a solid chance of being the star that they so desperately need.
The team will be able to pick up whoever falls out of the next 4 picks with their own selection at 9. Ultimately, being able to add the 4th and 9th picks in the draft to a team that seems like it has a reasonable shot of making its NSL Playoff debut without those picks is a nice position to be in.
The roster is a bit unbalanced at this point - and especially thin up front as they have no true centers if Tristan Thompson elects not to return. Other than a possible trade for a center, the team will likely wait until after the draft to address any remaining gaps in the roster... and may even wait until after free agency before another trade is made.
