Houston Offseason
It appears my team is set for the upcoming season with maybe one more move still pending. We have 1 slot open and $13,106,488 of financial flexibility. We also put in a application for a Disabled Player Exception (DPE) for Tyrese Haliburton that could could net us a $14,104,000 MLE.

I could use the DPE to add a 15th player or I could just keep the financial flexibility to make cap-relief trades in the future. It took a couple of years to achieve this level of financial flexibility (and a lot of donating players). This is the aftermath of signing star extensions for Joker, Haliburton, and Maxey. We seen players go out for cheap in the name of financial flexibility. Names like Norman Powell, Harrison Barnes, and TJ McConnell have all gone out the door for nothing. So whether I maintain financial flexibility or burn it now for the sake of getting better this year is still unknown. I just have to see how my team does in the upcoming weeks to decide if I’m going to be a competing GM, collector GM, or trader GM this year.

Trades
I was really quiet when it came to trades. All I had for trade were minimum guys. So I already knew no combination of minimum players would add up to the salary of what people were offering on the market. So a lot of times when trade-block posts came up, I didn’t even look. I didn’t even have a TPE to get players with picks or GM points.
Free Agency
Our free agency wasn’t amazing, but then again, it wasn’t bad either. I tested out my team in 2k without Tyrese Haliburton, and no matter what I did, my team still looked like ass. So I knew there was nothing I could do to make my team competitive. So the goal was just to achieve tradeable assets. The expectation was to retain Paul Reed and land some players like Sam Merrill, Bruce Brown, Josh Okogie, and Luka Garza. But then Jake LaRavia started blowing up in the NBA. To see a prospect hit meant I had to hold on to him. I was originally going to just drop 17 GM points to keep him since he’s white, unattractive, and only a 74 rated player. But 2 days before FA, the ratings update dropped and he got moved up to a 78. So I thought fuck, I have to drop 99 GM points now. In this league if a player is 78 or higher (76 if it’s a center), you have to drop 99 GM points. That meant I would only have 14 GM points leftover. That meant no Sam Merrill, no Bruce Brown, no Josh Okogie. I just had to bid 1 on everything and see what I got. I also messed up with my MLE calculation. Since I was 12,000,000 under luxury cap, I thought I would get a 12,000,000 MLE. But no, you either get 14,104,000 or you don’t. There is no in between. So I only got 5,685,000. So that meant no Sam Merrill. No Tre Jones either.

So lets see how the expectations and reality compared:

So lets see how the expectations and reality compared:
Expectation:
- SG - Sam Merrill
- SG – Josh Okogie
- SF – Bruce Brown
- C – Luka Garza
Reality:
- SG- Lindy Waters III
- SF – Svi Mykhailiuk
- C – Drew Eubanks
I wasn’t unhappy with this, but the pressure of being under 14 players was stressing me out. But we are out of that now.
2-WAY players
I already had Sharife Cooper and Tosan Evbuomwan as my 2WAYs. As our 3rd I was looking at Max Shulga and John Tonje. I think Shulga will be more successful, but Tonje is better in 2K. I lost on Shulga and ended up with Tonje. And with how good Tonje is in 2K, he might actually start over Lindy Waters III, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Nique Clifford.
