Draft Capital of the World

Portland won't be playing for anything of real significance as the NSL regular season draws to a close. With just three games remaining in the 2024-2025 campaign, the Blazers are about to rubber stamp their worst season in their history, surpassing their other lowest win total by around 20 less wins.

Competitive in most games, Portland has been able to get critical minutes and run into younger players of whom the franchise values as long-term pieces for the roster. This isn't unexpected or unwarranted, as this path was chosen over a year ago by Front Office who wanted to see the other side of the fence.

The totality of many, many trades and a focus on the future has left Portland with arguably the most enviable potential draft-hand in NSL history. As it stands, Portland holds onto seven first round picks and four second round picks. Totally 11 selections, overall, Portland will account for 18.33% of the rookies that are drafted.

As currently per the standings, and without taking into account the almost guaranteed fluctuation caused by the draft lottery process (for better or worse), Portland maintain these current footholds within the draft order:

Pick 4, Pick 6, Pick 8, Pick 11, Pick 13, Pick 20, Pick 25, Pick 39, Pick 52, Pick 54, Pick 55.

It is all but guaranteed the Blazers won't hold onto all these rookies, with Portland already testing the future trade waters in order to solidify these picks into a condensing deal or shuffle their deck of cards to attain more future draft picks.

Assessing the roster, there is no critical need for a player-type. The team has young guards, forwards and big men. However, do any of these players possess enough weight (potential, talent, fit) to lock in a starting position? Keegan Murray, Jaden Ivey, Anthony Black would all likely have a claim on a starting position for next season.

The rest, is a wait and see.

The team's fate now resides in the rhythm and fall of the lottery balls.
