Title Aspirations

This first season with GM Ethan at the helm has been a rollercoaster full of ups and downs, a tonne of player movement, and some outright coaching blunders. However, despite all the chaos, the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks are right in the thick of the hunt for the #1 overall seed in the NSL this season.

That said, the standings may be painting a slightly misleading picture. The Bucks are struggling mightily against some of the other top-tier teams in the league this year:

Season Series to Date:
Charlotte: 0-3
Los Angeles Lakers: 1-1
Cleveland: 1-2
Washington: 2-2
Philadelphia: 1-2

These numbers don’t lie, and they highlight a potentially serious concern for the Bucks and our hopes of defending the title. Against these playoff-caliber teams, we’re a combined 5 wins and 10 losses. That’s a harsh reality check, especially considering we’ll almost certainly have to go through at least a couple of these teams if we want to make another deep playoff run.

So what’s going wrong? Could it be a line-up issue? Maybe we need to be setting better defensive matchups. Or is it simply a talent gap? We did get younger this year by moving on from Paul George, and maybe it’ll just take time for Evan Mobley to develop into a truly impactful 2K player. Right now, it’s tough to say, only time will reveal whether these growing pains are short-term setbacks or signs of a bigger problem.

One thing’s for certain: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having another MVP-caliber season, and he’s going to do his damn best to drag this team back to the promised land.

Go Bucks!
